Hello. First post here...ive lurked for a long time. I have an older Genie garage door opener that is not working right. Not sure what model...i think its from 1990something. When i open it, it will go up, and then the red sensor blinks, twice. It will not close. I pulled the release to close it manually, and then the red light stays on and i can close the door. I have cleaned the sensors, and made sure the wires are connected. I did purchase new sensors which i have not replaced because its 94° right now. The fact that pulling the release seems to "reset" it makes me wonder if its not a sensor problem.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Did you try adjusting the down and force limit switches?
Before I would buy and replace the sensors I would buy a complete NEW opener.……… 30+ years is an "old unit" and has had a good long life.

BTW! Genie is a quality brand opener and maybe if you called the Genie tech guys they could help you out with your problem.

My guess is If you hold the wired button on the wall all the way down the door will close.

This is openers way of telling you the sensors that go across the door opening are blocked miss aligned or broken.

That doesn't work. It just moves a bit then backs up. When I first moved it it did that, until i replaced the sensors. That was about 15 years ago. This door doesn't get much use...maybe 4 or 5 times a month.

I have the red light, 2 blinks, green on solid. That led me to blame the sensor. Lenses are clean, wiring is good.
The thing that is making me question it is that when I released the door and put it down manually, the red light lit solid. I did the same thing last week and it worked for a few days. I have a new pair of sensors. I am going to replace them and see what happens.

Is one sensor mounted in a less than secure manner so that the slip out if alignment?

Geni Garage Door Opener Tech Support 1-800-843-4084 has made me look like I really knew what I was doing.

They sent a technician to solve a warranty issue.

I replaced the sensors this morning. Opened and closed it 4 or 5 times. Seems to be ok, but who knows?.
