I bought an old house that had a shop with it with three bays all with genie screw type garage door opener and all three have the same problem. When you push the button the the opener turns the screw maybe one turn and then goes back a turn and that is it the the door doesn't really move. Does anybody have any idea what might be wrong?

Unlock the door from the drive and try it. I think the Genie screw type openers have an adjustment for tension. Look your model up online for a copy of the manual.

I have one of those and mine has limit switches that the carriage hit in the front and back, it does not need programed for the travel. If you need any info let me know I installed mine and have had it for about 5 years now and I should have the manual for it.

How old are the openers? Check the sensors if they have them. If they are old enough, there is only one red light, if it is flashing..there's your problem. Could be misaligned or check sensor wiring, broke, rat chewed etc.
Need more info or its all guessing. Genie went thru many changes over the years!

Hard to imagine all 3 are suffering the same issue...
As suggested, pull the release and see if they run.
While they're disconnected, can you lift the doors by hand? You should be able to unless they're locked closed, the springs are broken, or the doors have been closed so long, they're stuck to the ground.

If I had to bet I'd say previous owner recently had them installed and installer either didn't program them or failed to connect the trip sensors. I recently replaced one of my garage door openers with a genie screw type and it was doing the same thing. Needed to be programmed...

Info like model #, sensors or not, sure would help! Maybe a pic. As stated earlier Genie went thru a lot of changes over the years.

That was my thinking when I read the opening post as well.
If the openers are super old I don't think I would spend very much money trying to repair them, instead I would consider replacing them. You don't necessarily have to replace them all at one time.

Have you tried holding the button rather than just a push? I have seen doors set up with deadman switches you had to hold.
I tried holding the button down with the doors unhooked. They would turn backwards 1 turn then turn forwards 7 turns and stop.

Check and make sure the previous HO or hopefully not you, didn't use axle grease or the like to lube the screw. That'll bog down or stop a Genie dead in its tracks.
Also if you've had any power outages recently, a power surge can easily take out three sequensors(board) on an older Genie opener.

There is grease on the screw that could be what it is. Ill try cleaning it off and try it.

Try a little WD-40 on the screw. Work it back and forth manually if you can, then try running it. While its running, squirt a little more on. Careful it can get messy.

Don't use WD as a lubricant! It's more of a solvent than a lubricant, that's why it works so well cleaning out the old grease. I've always used used a product called Lubriplate, also packaged as Genie lube. The only thing recommended by Genie, and the closest thing I've found to a dripless white grease.
Just put a small bead directly on the screw, with the door on manual hit the button a few times to work it in, and your good to go. Just keep an eye for any excess grease, especially after cleaning! That **** will drip..looks great on a white convertible or carpeting. Just wipe it clean.
