I did a search on this before I posted so I know people have asked about them before. But has anybody here used there ratchets? I am on a very tight budget for a while but I am looking for a couple 60-72 tooth ratchets and they have some nice looking ones.

Thanks,
Dan

Their website seems to appear like they are trying to manufacture something with some quality and I noticed tool warehouse is carrying some Genius products. Probably typical newer Taiwanese quality which is decent. A lot of the Stanley/Husky stuff is Taiwanese and OK however I do notice a quality drop in the Chinese manufactured stuff. Probably a lot better than the standard Craftsman ratchets. With the exception of the cheap Chinese ratchets in the no name $3 Walmart socket sets the recent Craftsmans have been one of the worst ratchets I have seen/used. Craftsman Pro is a different story.

Husky has a fine tooth quick release ratchet which is really nice. The 1/4 drive ***** *** but the 3/8 and 1/2 are really good for the money. Theres the three piece set floating around in a box at one of the bays. I grab the SK first but these arnt bad either.

I've sold some Genius product and it was acceptable for industrial maintenance use. Some engineers would also buy it to mock up prototype tools for special applications. It's decent stuff with broad product depth

In Southern Ontario, Canada I think their market penetration has a lot to do with the fact that they always had stock on the shelf in their local warehouse.

The only issue you will have is the warranty. They do carry a lifetime one but you might have to ship this to Canada to have it repaired or replaced, Not fun at all.

Thanks for the input guys, I will keep looking around, the exact ratchet I am looking for is a 3/8 flex head comfort grip with fine tooth head. The only other one I found was from Matco and was $140 which is not in the budget.

Just a quick note to add: I bought a set of Ingersoll-Rand impact sockets several years ago, and out of the brand new ingersoll packaging came a set of Genius sockets. Feeling like I had gotten duped, I called IR, and they confirmed that (at least at the time), Genius made all their sockets, etc. I've been using them for the last 6 years or so and they have held up well. I have no idea if it is still the same or not.

They are a Taiwan based manufacturer with a Canadian service center.

From Genius Tools FAQ...

Where are Genius' products manufactured?
All products are manufactured in Taiwan.

Every trade group/importer calls themselve a manufacturer. I had heard through other Asia Manufacturers that Genius is an importer and has no assets - but I could be wrong. Maybe someone from Asia can chime in - do they actually have a factory?

Have anybody actually tried their impact sockets? I reckon if they supply IR then they must be good Taiwanese stuff. Given a choice more, often than not, I will choose Made in Taiwan than Made in China.

Do you think these sockets are better than Sunnex?

Their site shows an ISO certification for socket manufacturing, but doesn't list any other tools.

I have a set of IR impact sockets and so far they have held up well. These sockets are thinner walled than other brands and are useful in tight spaces.
I also have some Sunnex sockets which I have not used yet. Are the Sunnex sockets decent quality?

I've had a little stubby 1/4 - 3/8 drive Genius ratchet for a few years (1/4 on one side of the head and 3/8 on the other). Nifty little thing and seems to be of decent quality. Only cost me $10-15 so I'm not too worried about warrantying it if it dies.
