IMO, you would not be disappointed with the performance of any Genius socket. I think of them as the Asian Proto.

Because on Japanese made cars 12, 14, and 17mm are very common and you might need to hold one side while removing the other side.
11mm isn't that common on those vehicles.

Genius tools are pretty good but, they won't make you give up your truck brand stuff. I think asian Proto is an insult to Proto but that's just me. They are midrange, Taiwan made tools that can get the job done without breaking the bank. Their popularity grew when the old SK had problems and many independent tool jobbers started selling Genius and Gearwrench to fill the void. I think Gearwrench ratchets are better than Genius though.

Genius round head ratchets ****. Their sockets and torx bit sockets are very good quality. Their hi-polished wrenches look good in pics but the one set I have seen in person had flaking chrome.

There impact sockets are decent, but there chrome sockets are a joke imo. I'm sure they're strong, but they're just as bulky as an impact, so it defeats half the purpose of having chromes.

What is the COO on Genius? Is it really Taiwan? I just got the impact extension set with 1/2, 3/8 and 1/4 impacts for 26 bucks on Amazon. Quality feels like Asian but I can't find COO anywhere on any tool piece or on the box. Funny there is a red maple leaf in a logo that says "best performance, professional quality". Made me think possibly Canadian.

Hope I didn't waste bandwidth with this question. Kept searching and found two more threads with similar titles where posts suggest that COO is Taiwan. What's with the maple leaf?

I have a set of their impact sockets, have been very happy with them. I also have a couple of random combo wrenches those are nice as well. Never owned any of the chrome sockets or a rat.

Canadian company, tools made in taiwan

Correct, and very misleading. Intentionally misleading, and it pisses me off, but Canada needs to tighten up the rules on permitting such symbols. It's akin to the USA permitting the use of a Stars & Stripes motif - it implies USA manufacture...

The foregoing objection notwithstanding, the few Genius tools I've seen in person looked very nice and the finish was as good as anything I've encountered.
