Genuine Mechanix gloves or generic?

I've owned a few pair of the Mechanix Fast Fit and their Originals. I like them but they are not cheap around here.

Does anyone have experience with a no name brand that they find just as good or better considering they sell for a lesser price?

For the price the HF gloves work for me, go through 2 to 3 pair a year. mostly throw them out when they get to grease soakrd.

+1 on the harbor freight gloves. I buy them when the coupon for 3 bucks a pair comes out, I'll get four pairs or so.

I had the original and a set of Craftman copies. When I get oil on them I can't get them off fast enough because the oil soaks in and burns like hell.

I started wearing cheap cotton gloves with diamond grips pulled over them and love them. I picked up this trick on a bbq forum. If its good enough to pull a brisket from a smoker it's good enough for working in a car. Wear heavier gloves or a second pair underneath if things get too hot.

I have a pair of Allstar gloves. I like them except the elastic cuff is twice as long as any othe rgloves.

I usually buy 2-4 pair of Jegs gloves when I order. They work as well as the high price items, $10 a pop (a little bit cheaper with a racer account).

I thought that the Mechanix gloves were the shiz until I had some gasoline splash on them while I was wearing them. The dye in the gloves was immediately reactivated and transferred to my skin. Black hands for the next week or so...

Since then, I have been using Ringers for the most part or Mechanix and when working around liquids, I put on a pair of nytril gloves first.. I go through a TON of HF Blue gloves..

I like Mechanix Fastfit only because they fit me well. I only buy on Amazon when they are around $10. I am curious about their leather palm gloves.

Harbor freight gloves for me. I've tried a couple of different kinds of Mechanix, and the craftsman gloves, and the harbor freight last just as long at 1/3 the price. The fingers also seem to hold up longer than the craftsman gloves.

i think mechanix branded gloves have suffered some quality issues in the past 10 years. splitting seams ect on gloves that really havent been abused.
my fav pair of gloves right now are some HF "impact" gloves, they seem to be holding up pretty good so far

I pick up gloves at one of the rod runs that I attend during the year. Couple of hundred vendors there that carry a variety of pretty good gloves. Most are 2 pair for $5. They last me a couple of months so not bad at all.

^ This... I just bought a two pair of H-F gloves last week. I throw them out when the finger tips get holes in them. All brands wear out when exposed to auto fluids and chemicals.

I've never tried mechanic's gloves. I have to work bare handed to get done what I want. If I'm washing something in a solvent, I use nitrile gloves, but they get off my hands as fast as possible and I do my wrenching and mechanical work bare handed and use a good dose of hand cleaner afterwards.

For me it's not a matter of worrying about getting dirty... I could give Pig-Pen in the Peanuts comic strip a run for his money there.. LOL

My skin has become more and more (looking for the right word but not finding it) "Fragile" over the years. I'm knockin on the door of sixty now and find that Even though I have callouses on my hands - I start getting skin cracks and bleeding, then infections and what-not.. I am almost always at least wearing the blue gloves if not some heavier gloves over the tops of those to protect from slivers (I hate those with a purple passion) or worse..

Tried a few brands, found them overpriced for the wear time. Just use HF myself now.
Not a mechanic's glove, but Ironclad were the worst for the price. Thought they would be great for a shingling job. Worn through in about one hour.
