There has been a lot of talk about ratcheting screwdrivers in other threads. I was wondering what all of the German Hand Tools fans think over here. If I were thinking about something a little less expensive than a Snap-on, such as a Williams, would I be better off with a Wera, or are there other German models to consider?

I tended to pick that sort of thing up back when it was all super cheap on eBay.

The Wera ones are way nicer than the Williams product, I ended up just giving a Williams set away. Plus Wera also makes a t-handle and a pistol grip version.

There's also those Schroeder sets like so:

But it's best to think of those as a ratchet instead of a ratcheting screwdriver.

PB Swiss makes one, but it's a bit expensive.

I see that the Wera product is $24 at Chad's. Not absurdly pricey.

Finish 49 is chrome. Finish 69 is a teflon coating.

The chrome is a harder surface and less likely to scratch off the only drawback is that the chrome will more likely chip off on the cutting edges, this is not good if you are using it on sensitive electronic material and the chrome chips would potentially cause issues like shorting out components.

The Teflon coating is very durable but not as hard but does not chip off but can were off in time.

They are both great finished I believe it would be more a preference thing

Got a couple of NWS pliers from Ash for my birthday. Got there fast but still had to 'wait for the day' lol. The handles on them are nice. The action on the needle nose are nice; the other is just a bit stiff but I think it'll loosen up. Great experience and already planning on what I'll get next.

Mmm. Felo screwdrivers.

For many years Wiha were may favorite screwdrivers. Then a few years ago I got ahold of some Napa/Witte drivers and those became my favorites. More recently I got a free Felo from a promo deal a year or two ago. I subsequently bought a basic set from Ash and they have become my go-to drivers. The spongy/grippy handle is just fantastic.

I received my first order of NWS pliers yesterday from German Hand Tools. These will be replacing an assortment of mix-match pliers I've acquired throughout the years and finally decided to pony up for a quality line of pliers. So far I'm impressed with the quality and super fast shipping. I even received a refund for a shipping overcharge, which was unexpected but much appreciated. Call Ash and talk to him. I've been over to his place many times to purchase tools. You just need to contact him to set up a date and time. He does other things besides selling tools, so he is not always available.

What has happened to the Hazet line of tools? My Box-End set I got in the 70's have been the best wrenches I have had.

Oops!! My age is getting to me... my B/E wrenches are Dowidat 111 ... not Hazet!

Here is a full set of Heyco/Felo torx. Grips are the same as the Frico VDE, 550 and 500 series. Won't have a problem finding this set from all of my frico drivers.

Heyco offers over 20 Felo screwdriver sizes not available from the parent compay. Including 2 14mm slots (one of them bolstered) , a longer 12mm slot (200mm) and a whole set of lighter weight bolster drivers without the striking cap.

I think very fitting my first post is to acknowledge the amazing experience I had in dealing with Ashkon at German-Hand-Tools.com

After reading Monte's famous "Tools From The Old World" and then talking to Ashkon I was more convinced then ever to start upgrading my hand tools.

I'm not completely naive regarding the outstanding quality of tools made in Germany. I'm currently using Fein, Festool, Bosch, Mafell products, but Ashkon has certainly enlighten me to a number of companies making fantastic hand tools in Germany.

Over the last couple weeks I've been receiving packages of tools (Gedore, Knipex, Felo, NWS, BMI) from Ashkon.

The tools are everything I had hoped and more. The workmanship is by far superior to what I was using, but what was even more impressive was the experience dealing with Ashkon and German-Hand-Tools. The service they offer is outstanding. Communication was excellent.

I don't know anyone in north America in regards to Hazet items. The only guy I get my personal Hazet stuff is from jensputzier, he is a member on here and ships from germany at pretty reasonable prices. BGS also makes specialty tools as well which I can order. Ash, a few questions:
1. Does Jens Putzier have a web site or does he only sell to members here if you send him a PM. Does he have a thread?
2. The BGS composite and stubby 3/8 ratchets. Are those made in Germany or China? If Germany, could you provide a price? If China don't bother. If you also know of another composite ratchet that is made in Germany or Europe you can recommend and sell please also post it.

The black NWS locking pliers look fantabulous.
1. Are they surface treated/phosphate/coated or painted? Any long term experience with the coating? 2. Would you recommend the NWS loacking pliers over Gedore? In general, what brand locking pliers that you carry or can get would you recommend?
3. Price?

I went over to Ash's place to pick up some VBW plier wrenches I had him order for me. As usual I came home with a lot more than just the VBW plier wrenches. Here is some of the stuff I came back with. I didn't get pictures of the Witte T-handle and regular handle drivers. There were about 160 of them.
Also didn't get pictures of the Hazet old style combination wrenches of which there were seven if I remember correctly.

Yes, the cut-away torque wrench is really nice. It is fully operational too. I couldn't resist since Ash was practically giving the stuff away. It was mostly closeout items he just wanted to get rid of for one reason or another.

He has no time to update the website with these items. Selling tools is not his main business. I told him several times he should list them on the website, but he is just too busy with other things right now. So I was happy to take them off his hands. I'm just lucky that I live close by so I can go by and see him in person from time to time and see what new stuff he has. It can get expensive sometimes though.
