So a GJ member text me about a bench top Dunlap Drill on my side of town on CL for $40. I was not really looking for another Drill and it looked pretty rough and it was still about 30 min from the house and I am in the middle of restoring a nice Delta 14" standup DP. Well I call the guy and he said come get it for $30 so off I go. I get there its in a back shed, he asks if I want a broken floor jack I pass it was a cheap Harbor freight and just dont need it, then he ask if I want and old machinist box with some tools that his great granddad or granddad left. The box was pretty beat up he opens the top and I see a small Palgren vise and a few machinist squares. I said how much he says $50 for the the Drill and Tool box I said would you take $40 because that was all I had on me, he said sold. Here is most of the content, Brown & Sharp and Starrett make up most of it, there were about ten taps and a bunch more misc stuff not in the pick. One thing that was cool was a GE factory pass from 1929

Nice score! I love getting a box with all kinds of unknowns in it and digging through looking for treasure. Sometimes like you, you get lucky....other times not so much.

Great score! Are you going to restore the box? I've restored quite a few so if I can help, let me know.

Nice score!

I'm on the lookout for a machinists box. I have absolutely no use for one, but I like the look of them and I'm sure I'll figure out something to store in it ;)

Nice score! It doesn't look it but if you need to replace any of the leatherette covering it is still available from Gerstner. I have a large one that is going to need it when the restoration is done.Probably not soon as the back needs to be replaced and it is missing two drawers and they are larger than the smaller boxes.

Pics of all the stuff inside? Or is what we see about it?

I have seen people use Gerstner chests as jewelry boxes, placed on top of a dresser it can almost look like a 2 piece roller box.

There were a few more items taps a old starrett dial indicator with a broken face some loose gauge pins I will shoot a pic later today. If there is anything anyone needs and I don't need it I would be willing to part with it.

man, id love to take some of those tools off yer hands, but the truth is i have pretty much every thing in that pic except for that little vise.
even that little black ocular eyepiece/magnifier..i got it. it was my grandpas.

you didnt ask, but...from that pic(and its hard to tell from that one pic) i'm gonna
say that that chest is from appox 1941/42.

if you're not into machinist tools you can sell those and more than double yer $

or i'll give ya $40 for the contents and you can feel happy that you got cool old gerstner for free.;)

The Date on the GE facility pass is 1929, probably his first job so I figure a lot of the tools were purchased in the thirties and forties not sure on the box couldn't find a date but your probably close.

The leatherette doesn't look too bad. If it isn't torn, I'd get some of Gerstner's "Restorer Juice" or whatever they call it. It works pretty well to clean up an old chest.

I am sorry about the thread hijack, i didnt realize it until the nextvday. I was in the hospital picking up my wife after surgery and I thought I was on the main toolbox page. Truly unintentional.
