I picked this up today at a sale in the hopes it was a Gerstner. She wanted $40 so I jumped on it without giving it much thought. I did a search for Superior machinist box and nothing.
Maybe this is a Union. The main lock is yale and I cant find the Gerstner name on this box.

I'm pretty sure it's not a Gerstner, although it has some of the same hardware. The way the locks work is different.

Gerstner or not, that's a very cool box for $40. The corner guards don't even look beat up. I'd say a nice restore would be in order for that beauty.

It is well made but unfortunately not a Gerstner, maybe next time.
If I get time maybe will give it a good cleaning and see what some Murphys oil or something similar will do for the finish. It looks like it was sitting for a long time with the front cover slid under the bottom before I grabbed it.

I am not so sure it is a factory box, the case is not jointed. Star made boxes with the corner braces like the ones seen under the lid, the hinges could be Union, drawer layout Gerstner?

All factory built wooden chests have jointed corners, finger or box joints, this has none.
It looks to me like a homemade chest or one that has been "rebuilt" by a novice.
