The Menards is going to be on Spencer road basicly crosscorner from Costco, there was going to be another in the LSL/Ofallon area but it is on hold per this article

I have gone to the one in Columbia MO as my work commute past and present take me by it and I am looking forward to having alot closer to Ofallon where I live for unplanned trips.

Ha, there were a lot of us in Jeff City that went to Columbia too just for the Menards before we got one of our own. I hated our Lowes, they used to have a near monopoly and were horrible as a result.

I think Menards puts more effort into display/accessibility of the merchandise than the other stores which makes generally a better experience.

+1 cashiers.

I don't think anyone mentioned that Menards gives you 90 days to return purchases to get the money back. After that it is in store credit. That is one thing I don't like but since I buy a lot there it is not a great big hassle. Just to compare I have had things bought from Lowes over 2 years old and they give me money back. I have even had things purchased at Lowes 2 years or more WITHOUT receipts and no questions asked. That was sweet.

You will like Menards.

I have a Menards 7 minutes away, Lowes 10 minutes, HD 20 minutes. I find myself going to Menards more and more. All the mentioned above about rebates being in store credit is a little frustrating. I have gotten in the habit of using the same credit card there all the time. They do have their own credit card. The lookup kiosk using a credit card is pretty cool. Or if you have the product 10-digit number or Menards 7 digit number will pull up receipts as well. At the kiosk you can look up a receipt by the date or product number.

to all the guys and gals in the greater st louis area that know where the Menards is going to be in St. Peters (mexico and spencer) right behind costco by mid rivers mall.......they are also putting in a NORTHERN TOOL right off cave springs next to hobby lobby basically a quarter mile from Harbor Freight and HD in there at hwy70.

Personally I'm excited for both to open, not that i really need anything else, but i'd be open to see the masterforce new line of toolboxes and see what northern is all about

Just bought a set of USA Masterforce combo wrenches at Menards, 7mm-19mm for just over $40. They are supposedly rebranded Allen, they still have a bunch of Allen wrenches in the mix as they swap out to the Masterforce brand. Seem to be of similar quality as the older USA Craftsman RP wrenches again basically the same factory making them. I love that they are this. I just wish they would start looking at increasing selection of the hand tools and would put together bigger tool sets. For my set I had to buy core set and add 5-6 loose wrenches to make the set. The also don't have any over 22mm I think is what I saw in the store.

Menards "must do" - find the tool clearance display. When mine clearances something, they dont bs around and go ~30-70% off instantly.

Not around here, they might knock off ten dollars on a $140 power tool. A friend and I went in one time in the middle of cutting up a tree to get a chainsaw cheap. We needed a quick replacement for the one we were using as it was acting up. They had a display model with the oil cap, instructions, wrench, and chain missing. Originally $150 now $130, we told the store guy "with all that missing we would give him half, $75." The manager said no, they would rather toss it in the dumpster and told the floor kid to do just that. I'm not kidding it's all true. No deal there.

I've gotten some pretty good hardware clearance deals at Menards. Sometimes they fill up a big bag full of random hardware and slap $2 on it. Those are my favorite.

This seems to be the policy at my local Menard's as well. There are still occasionally deals to be had, but clearance price might as well be the same as "mediocre sale weekend" price.

Never ever ever more than 25% anything over $10, at least on the clearance rack.

I was in Maynards one day at lunch and saw a Lincoln Magnum 100 zip tired to a Clarke machine, yea, the ones with hard wired guns:lol_hitti,so I go get one of the kids and explain to him it does not fit that machine or any they sell anymore and could I buy it.He asks and yes they will sell it.....how much,I say 10.00....sold......winner,winner,chicken dinner!

I just recently heard a story about their loss prevention people going nutso over a pack of screws that was not paid for.I have known this guys for 20yrs and would never believe he would steal anything let alone a .13 pack of screws and then to get banned, police called and then when his lawyer calls the prosecutor and they drop the charges.I understand they have to protect their stores but common sense should have a place there too.

Menard's is devoting more and more floor space to groceries and clothing.

Watch in the spring for the t-shirts sales. Where else can you pick up decent t-shirts for $1.99? They have some funky solid colors, and I think I have one of about everything. I say "No" to the ones with the Menards logo though.

My girls always sing the jingle in the store "Save big money at Menards".

We've had a Menards here for over 20 years. As others have said, early on it was ****. Couldn't find any straight lumber, you'd open sealed packages to find parts missing, have to return a light multiple times to find one that would work, crappy staff (if you could find one)...it was b-a-d.

When Home Depot and Lowes came to town around ten years ago (in the same year) we were thrilled to hopefully have somewhere decent to go instead. The talk around town was Menards wouldn't last 6 months. Menards made huge improvements almost overnight. Staff tripled, quality dramatically improved...everything saw big improvements.

Home Depot was built right across the street. They're the ones who only lasted a year (well, maybe two). It's now a big orange office building. Lowe's has survived. The house we bought a few years ago was built out of Lowe's apparently; all the fixtures, cabinets, etc. appear to be their products. And they're closer to home, so I often started there.

Usually I ended up leaving 90 minutes later PO'd as I couldn't find what I wanted, they were out of this or that, don't carry it, whatever. I'd drive over to Menards and be in the door, have what I need, thru the checkout, and back to my car in less than 20 minutes. I've quit going to Lowe's for anything other than things specific to them for the house. And I typically try to get it at Menards first.

(And yeah, the whole "English is our SECOND language" thing at Lowe's has me PO'd before I even get in the door.) I'm far enough north it should be saying "Ya sure , ya betcha, Enter here, eh". LOL

Im excited that they are in the process of building a Menards on Middlebelt Rd. in Livonia, MI (near schoolcraft, in what looks like an old GM or Detroit diesel warehouse); the closest one to me right now is either toledo or jackson - way too far to justify the gas money.

Supposedly they are also trying to purchase part of the old Ford Wixom assembly plant and then build another Menards there... time will tell!
