Getting a MaxJax Charged More for Liftgate?

Just wondering if you guys, or anyone here, has ordered a new MaxJax from BendPak.

I ordered it and then they called me to let me know it was going to cost an additional 160 bucks because they had to deliver to

1. Residence not a business
2. Needed a Liftgate

I wouldn't mind that honestly... IF they had that upfront when I ordered it.

On their site it shows "Free delivery within the US."

Is this a "normal thing" that happens? Never been called for additional money to ship something before.

Trucking company needs to make a profit too, Bendpak is not delivering it themselves.
I can tell you first hand the rate structure for freight is not set up for residential deliveries but for dock to dock quick on quick off freight.

Yes it is common. Usually referred to as limited access, liftgate service. Sometimes you can also have it delivered and held at the freight company's local hub and go pick it up

I have never gotten anything via truck freight where they didn't charge more for residential delivery and liftgate service.

I don’t recall paying $160 but I do remember the upcharge from MaxJax for the lift gate delivery. Driver even helped drag the pallet up my hilly driveway and into my garage vs leaving it at the street (he was tipped well). Whatever the cost was, it beat dealing with finding a buddy with a dock, getting it into and off my truck etc.
