After much perusing this site I have decided to do a full makeover of my 2 car garage. I already ordered the cabinets from Home Depot while they were on sale:
http://www.homedepot.com/p/NewAge-P...-Cabinet-Set-in-Gray-10-Piece-50102/206827773

I am renting a POD and will clean out/toss 27 years of accumulated ****. The popcorn ceiling will be redone with a double knockdown texture followed by a complete wall repaint then a full broadcast epoxy floor. I will be looking into some neon lights as well, something in a Ford Mustang motif. Before and after pics will follow. Everything should be wrapped up by the third week of May.

Cool! As a fellow 2 car garage owner in need of drywall work and a paint job, I will follow along. Did you decide on which epoxy? I'm leaning toward race deck for ease of install...

I cant copy the picture of the color for some reason but it is a 100% broadcast pewter/black flake with a gray base. I looked at race deck and it would cost more for the tiles and labor than having the floor coated.

Here we go......Just ordered the POD for a delivery next week. The cabinets will be here this week (on 4 pallets) and I will be able to inspect them before the POD comes, then load into the POD. Popcorn ceiling will be replaced with a double knockdown texture at the end of next week followed by the painting of the walls and floor. I must have removed at least 50 cans of spray paint, many of them not spraying, inside the cabinets. Talk about accumulating ****. I also found two bins under the work bench filled with years of fasteners and other assorted parts we all save "just in case" we need them 27 years later. I wont mention whats in the shed.

While you are at it....now is the time to run any wiring and add lights.

Put those outlets at 52" above the floor....that way a 4x8 sheet of something doesn't block it.

When I ordered these cabinets it showed a potential ship date of several weeks. Thought I had plenty of time to make room for 4 pallets and have most of my work already done.....wrong!!! In typical Home Depot fashion the cabinets are arriving tomorrow. Good on their fast shipping, bad for me. Bad in the sense that I am 6 weeks out from a full knee replacement and just now am able to switch from a walker to a cane. Looks like I'll have to enlist some neighbors to help move stuff around until my POD comes next week. Thank the powers that be for a supply of Oxy's!!!But, when it is all done and finished it will be worth it. Best part I will be able to park my Mustang in there AND have room to walk around in there.

By the way, this set is no longer on sale or available from Home Depot. Glad I ordered them when I did. The red set sold out a week ago.

Get off that Oxy fast.

I had knee surgery about 18 months ago...I was off pain meds within 4 days. The strongest thing I took afterwards was Alieve

Did you have a replacement or a scope? Huge difference in pain. you definitely need something strong to get you through therapy. Plus I had ligament damage as well which slowed the recovery process by another month. But I do understand your concern about getting off the oxy's as soon as possible. I only make light about the use of oxy's. I have already reduced my intake but when they are trying to get that new knee to flex and you need a few more degrees to go, well, well, ill tell ya.......
This is my second rodeo as well since I had the other one replaced 5 years ago.
But back to the garage......cant wait for it to be finished!

Nice garage you built there by the way. I would love a living space above mine.

Cabinets came today and I was pleasantly surprised. R&L Carriers did the delivery and the driver was very courteous and had no problem loading it into my garage. Second surprise was that there was only 1 pallet, not the four that I thought was coming. Everything was packed in 3 tall cabinets. Third surprise was at just how well it was packed/strapped on the pallet. Not a single piece of shrink wrap was out of place. So far so good....

Finally getting underway. Got a call today that the POD will be delivered at 8 AM tomorrow so I can finally begin to load the ton of stuff in the garage into it. I got rid of my old work bench, wooden wall cabinets, an old file cabinet and I tossed a bunch of junk away but I still have "stuff" laying around. You know that box of old bolts, screws and anything else that may have been deemed to important to throw away and was kept in said box/bin and stashed under the work bench? I actually developed a pair and tossed the whole thing into the trash. 27 years worth. It was heavy too. Also going to sell my old tool box tomorrow after I clean it out. Another 43 years of misc. tools, sockets, screwdrivers, etc. That is going to be hard but it will be going to another person who will use it for his small shop. It was a Sears Craftsman lower box and a Kennedy upper. Bought them back in 1974. Yes, im cleaning house. Out with the old, in with the new.

Thursday the old popcorn ceiling will be replaced by a double knockdown texture in the garage and all sheet rock will be patched. The following week, unless I can get the painters in earlier, the walls will be painted and right after that the epoxy floor will be done. Cant wait till the new cabinets are finally installed and I can reclaim my garage space. I have a Mustang neon clock awaiting the completion. My first wall addition!

A word of advice:When ordering a POD make sure you spring for the extra few dollars and get a 16' POD. I went with the 12' one thinking that I would have enough room, after all the PODS website says the 12' will hold 2-3 rooms. Yea, if your a midget. That extra 4' would have come in handy. When it comes time to remove the washer/dryer and a piece of gym equipment I will just have to wrap it in plastic sheets and store it behind the POD. Live and learn. Tossed out a few more items and I still have at least 10 more bins of **** to sort through. I will sure be glad when this is over with.

Another piece of advice: never, ever start a project like this while you are home recuperating from a total knee replacement. Sure as heck wipes the stuffing out of you. Just saying.........
