Getting ready for my oxy/acetylene class...

Between what my father gave me, craigs list for the bottles and a few regulators one 300 setup with propylene.... ebay for knock off tips and a spare 300 setup nib and a couple new spare single stage regulators and the others i had repaired. I think i am set... I have one dual stage on the large bottle and one vts450d as a spare. Also a 100 setup with a new knock off version and tips... i have a few sets of flashback and spark arrestors in boxes...

The class is arc and oxy/acetylene.. i am still on arc, but we will be switching in march...

Here are some pics of the stuff. I will trade in the two smaller bottles when empty for one large acetylene...

Man...that’s a lot of nice **** there. I have a Victor Journeyman setup with the biggest non rental bottles at home. Good quality stuff you don’t have to worry about. Always ready when you need them.

My dad never had a lot of money growing up and when i was a kid, he always had victor 300 series stuff... still using it oday....

My son and I are currently taking an Arc and oxy/gas class too. Having a blast and I'm learning a lot, well worth my time.

I had a welding class in high school. Oxy-Acetylene first half and arc welding second half. Loved that class! It was only a one-year course but I was able to come-back the next year as the shop assistant. Got to repair all kind of school equipment.

My dad gave me 4-5 regulators... extras he got cheap... he gave me the series 100 torch, which he paid 5$... and i bought the tips... then when i got the oxy tank and propylene from craigs, i paid 300 for the large oxy tank, propylene tank- regulators and a used 300 mixing chamber and torch.... then i had to get the 300 tips... and it was cheaper to have the nib 300 setup thrown in... also some regulators had leaks, but i had them all repaired... last but not least the 2601 torch and nib regulators, i got for 230 for nib spares...

i will give him some of it back... we like to have spares. maybe sell the 100 mixing chamber/torch and tips... also i think i have 1200$ in all of that... the bottles all were 3/4 full as well and the oxy might be a 300cf.. it was really heavy. Took two of us to pick it up...

Big bottles are good. I like some long hoses depending on shop layout. When I used gasses for cutting all the time I had 2 100 ft hoses, one for LP and one for acetylene and left it all in a station with 100# on the lp. Now that the majority of cutting is done plasma I have them back on a cart and use S bottles and aceyt, the use rate is so small in comparison that it doesn't make much difference.
I have several buds made it with single simple torch sets over the years. I have replaced a couple of regs but the stuff was really old. If a guy is going to be doing lots of fab a plasma will pay in quality and convenience but good torch skills are unmistakable for sure, it really stands out.

I like the big cutting head for field work. I have used all of that, in fact got most of it. The 100 or Ranger class has its points especially for auto work but I tend to use the bigger stuff too.

Keep working on the welds, you will get there. Takes a lot of practice and time to perfect. As soon as you think you have it, you will mess something up.

We use a miller dialarc 250 in class and i have the lincoln 210mp at home.

Turn the machine up another 5 and hold it right down the center of the groove or root to start with. I do add a little wiggle sometimes but mostly have it hot and concentrate on perfect arc length and let it fill for that joint and rod. I like the machine to do the work instead of making me a fussy operator to get basic fusion, especially flat and overhead.

I will try that... class is tough, but i might bring in my 210mp to practice with in class.

This is for fun... My father's friend welded in the mines for 40+ years, best welder i have seen and he spoke about them getting x-rayed.

I havnt used that 210 but have a whole garage full of Dialarcs. It's ok to bring your machine but they run so similar that I bet money that if they were where you couldn't see them couldn't tell them apart.
I have parked my dc buzzer next to the Maxstar and really had to look hard tell them apart.
