In the last week I have seen where rats have chewed chunks out of both of my 3/8" rubber air hoses, not to the point where they leak but definitly weakening them. I have had the one hose since last august & never had this problem before. Plan on getting some "one bite bars", Decon, & putting some nice full strength antifreeze down for them to drink when the decon makes them thirsty. Other than that, does anyone know of something to get rid of them? My shop is in the front half of a 100x40' pole barn & doesn't have anything that should draw them, just gas, oil, wood, powder for reloading, machinery for woodworking, mowers, tools, etc. Thought about getting a cat but one with claws would have it's own set of problems like sharpening it's claws on the 1" line running from the compressor to the black pipe & I don't know if one without claws could take down a rat. Any ideas?

Boa constrictor? Would'nt bother anything but the rodents. Might take a while. Go to your local farm supply they will have the industrial grade rat killer. Trouble with rats are they have smart brains and will communicate to their brethern when something is not good for them. It needs to work fast. Had the same problem in my barn and the stuff I used allowed 2 steps after eating then death. No more rats though,

This may not be practical for you, especially if don't want or need a dog, but a RAT TERRIER would very likely address your problem. If you've ever seen one go after a rat, you know what I mean.
They are an absolute cruise missile when after a rat. Cut 'em loose in the building at night, similar to a junk yard dog, and let it take care of your problem.

Simple answer:
Box (or 2 or 3) of mothballs, scatter em around the garage & the rodents will leave. Put some around the outside of your house so they don't move in there...
I do this every few months & no longer have a rodents in the garage problem... altho my neighbors do....

Or a cake of soap works well as they will try to eat it.
You need to get on a site devoted to this.

Anyone tried flybait & coke? Was told that it works very quickly on ***** but don't know if rats/mice would get into it, guess it's worth a try. After all, what kind of a host would I be if I didn't serve my little guests a variety of cusine for their dining pleasure?

Yesterday I saw a big 5 to 6 foot black rat snake in my yard. If I would have know about your problem I would have caught him for you.This big ole bad boy can gobble up rats like a kid eatin free pop corn....lol

I have a huge rat problem in my neighborhood. They dont get in the house or garage but inside my generator stinks so fing bad it almost makes you puke just walking past it. I have wire mesh to close the 2 openings they are getting in thru but want to do a mass extermination. I put mothballs and dryer sheets in the case last night after reading this thread but dont have much hope of them working. I had 10 of the big spring loaded rat traps and used to come out once every hour when I was home and re load em and dump the bodies. I got 22 rats in 4 hours when I first put them out. I actually caught 2 at a time in 1 trap more than once but it rained and all the traps split. I poison every week but Im starting to think they are immune. I mix the poison in with peanut butter and the bowl is always empty the next day. My dogs are so sick of them they hardly kill em any more. Im working on building a trap that kills em over and over without needing to get reset. So far I have a plan to make a big funnel and burying a 5 gal bucket with the funnel flush to the ground and filling the bucket half way with acid. Ill put 2 bands of that metal duct tape at the top of the funnel and hook the ground from my electric fence to one and the + to the other. Then Ill hang bait over the middle of the bucket and make a spring loaded trap door so they walk over the tape touching both pieces at the same time getting shocked, slide down the funnel and the door opens and they drop in the acid. Anyone got any better ideas?

If you are brave, and your garage is detached; I would start an engine and close the place up, I would then let the engine run for say an hour....perhaps more! I would then boogie in real quick and shut off the engine and boogie right back out. Shutting the door behind me as I left.
I have no idea if a rat would fall for this trick or not. I know I would not do this if my garage were attached to my house. If the place were to stink to high heavon for who knows how long I would risk it with my shop, not my home. Anyway, food for thought!

I got mice in the house and they are driving me crazy. Victor electronic traps work well, just look for the flashing LED and dump'em out. But they get smart after some time and dont go in them anymore. I also catch them on glue traps, bag them in walmart bags and freeze them. Throw out the mouseicles on trash day. Didn't wanna do poison because of dogs, but trying this suggestion now. 2 parts corn meal, 1 part plaster of paris. Nothing like a cement belly ache! Don't know if its working yet, but they are eating it up. Only been a few days. I think I got the house sealed up now, just have to wait to get them all rooted out?
