Getting Signal To Second TV..Wireless...Run Cords?

When I wired my detached garage, I ran every type of cable you can imagine to the new building. So, I have cable TV in the garage. Friends gave me a large screen TV...so that's mounted to the wall.

I've recently set up a work bench upstairs and was thinking it would be nice to be able to catch up on the news, etc while upstairs. I don't want to pay for another cable box, and have found that I can split the output of the cable box to another tv. I have an old, JVC monitor that will work fine...and only needs RCA cables.

Looking on-line, I found a number of wireless transmitters-receivers for this, but was hoping for some real world reviews. My initial reaction is to run a long RCA cord for 1 channel audio and video...

Anyone have any thoughts?

I’ve had wireless transmitters before. They kinda ****, and you need 2 more PowerPoints. Main advantage is that they usually also receive the signal from the remote and send it back to the cable box, allowing you to change channels from the other room. If you can live without that functionality then wires are much better.

Of course, there could be newer better transmitters on the market since I had them.

Are you using a second TV or just running a monitor off the first TV?

Sorry guys...I guess I wasn't clear.

I "main set" is connect via HDMI from the cable box. I plan to use an older monitor from the RCA outputs on the cable box. I did test it with shorter cords and it works.

The real problem is that (which I guess isn't a big problem) ifI run cables, they need to go through the ceiling on the cable box side and I'd prefer to make it look right. I know I can get RCA jacks that fit into wall plates....

Look at HDHomerun from silicondust. you can stream your cable or over air channels to your smart tv, computer, or streaming stick like a firetv. you have to have a device to run the HDHomerun app to be able to watch your show. I use a tablet or computer loaded with the application to watch shows.

Depends on what you want to watch. I just watch the local news in my shop so an over the air antennae works great for local channels. Better signal quality than the compressed signal on cable TV too.
