Getting socket sets shipped

Anyone ever get socket sets shipped. Were the sockets all mixed in the box and scratched up? Want to order from Epstein's but don't want scratched up sockets from tumbling around from shipping. Is this a valid concern or just being paranoid and over thinking on my part. BTW....this is definitely one of the best sites on the web.

If they arrive scratched, have them refinished and apply polish liberally. Then store them behind glass in a humidity and temperature controlled display case. And if you're not well practiced at polishing your own tools, I recommend having them professionally polished.

Unless they really got like tumbled in a tumbler they really should not be scratched up even when just left free. It might also depend on the quality of the chrome you are buying. I bought a set of new Wright sockets off eBay and they came loose in a flat rate box. They all look perfect, but I think the Wright chrome is probably just good and not easy to damage. My full polish Wrightgrips also look brand new despite wrenching with them and dropping them on the driveway while working and such.

Bought a Snap On deep socket set off Ebay it was shipped via USPS Priority Mail. No scratches whatsoever until when inspecting them I dropped one on the garage floor which resulted in a slight scratch. If they're in the original holder it shouldn't get all scratched/dinged up.

I purchased sets from Cripes...great place to buy tools and Apex. Both companies took the time to properly package their sockets for shipment. I have bought some tools (hammers and wrenches) from Epsteins ...also a good place to buy tools from and they packed their stuff really nice too. I don't think you would have a problem at all from Epsteins. If you are that concerned give them a call and ask them how they pack the sockets for shipment. If you see a problem with it ask them to do it "better". They seem to have nice customer service and try to accommodate any reasonable request.

A guy I work with just had a nice 3/8 SK socket set delivered today.

I'm a fan of SK stuff, and this stuff was nice, but there was a lot of what might be best called microabrasions on the larger sockets, ---looked like it was from rubbing on the case during transit, etc. After the first few uses they would look like that regardless.

I hear there's a place just out side of las vegas where you can get your tool professionally polished.

I've bought several sets of Wright Tools sockets from a vendor and they were skin packaged on the rails & clips. No issues there. That said I also ordered a 1/2 dozen odd sockets to fill out sets and they were all loose in a bag, one had a few tumbling marks. I didn't send it back although probably should have. I feel the way you do, I want to be the one who marks them up, not receive expensive tools in what appears to be used condition.
I think it depends on the seller/packer, Either be specific about your concerns when ordering or buy off the shelf nearby if possible.

yes, that's what i was concerned about. I bought an SK socket set and was dissappointed with all the little scratches. I know they get all scratched up from use and all that, but i want them to look brand new, and i'll make them look used and old. if it were a husky set or whatever, who cares. but when you're paying $200.00 bucks a set, i want them nice.

Years ago I worked for a now defunct company that sold Wright. They were all properly packed and shipped by truck. Rarely did we have a problem with shipping damage.

After they arrived we did put them in a glass case. That made them harder to sell.... I wonder why that company is gone.

Because 99% of the people who waked into the showroom had never heard of Wright Tools ? ;)

+1 to put in WRITING your requirement that they shrinkwrap or individually wrap sockets to prevent rubbing/abrasion/damage while shipping. Something as simple as newspaper wrap for each socket and bubble wrap around those along with bag around all contents.

I don't see a problem with reputable company like Epstein or Cripes when you give them shipping instructions up front.

It is always better to demand proper protection for shipping as company like UPS will really beat the hell out of package through all their sort locations.

I've received flare wrenches that were scratched up some as they were loosely packed in a box. Wrenches easily could have fallen out of hole in box as well. I wasn't too happy with Ebay seller but these were used Craftsman so not like they were new SnapOn, SK, Wright, Mac, etc.
