Getting soft in my old age

My KRL722 and KR550 boxes are crammed full. Seldom used wrenches are bundled together and piled in a deep drawer, not organized nicely in racks as they should be. More stuff at home in a storage locker. I've been lusting after a KRL1023 for two years. Snap On man making no bargains. I find them on CL or evilBay, but I tell myself they are too far away or too expensive for what they are. Now I find one 15 miles away, claimed to be a year old, and I'm pretty sure $5000 counted out will take it home. I feel I can get $2000 for my existing boxes easily. So why can't I pull the trigger?

My only comment: Many new "bigger" boxes, have huge volume but actually LESS square inches due to the preponderance of Deep drawer designs. So look closely and do the math before pulling the trigger. (I don't have the specs on any of those handy, and too busy to go looking..)

That doesn't make sense.

Yes it does. Imagine a big tool box with only two drawers. Lots of CUBIC inches, but square inches on which to store tools is less. Thats fine if you want to pile all your junk without organizing it. You might as well us a filing cabinet.
Ive done my homework, the KRL1023 will suit my needs.

How do you figger?

Take the same height and make drawers deeper, you get fewer drawers. Take the same drawer footprint and have fewer drawers, you end up with fewer square inches to stack tools on.

makes sense to me. :headscrat

i hate boxes with a bunch of deep drawers. all the newer double/triple bank boxes seem to be full of them...
i'll keep my shallow drawers for tools.
have a bunch of blow molded cases?
deep drawers are ok, but i'd prefer a locker/open compartment side box

You are confusing CUBIC inches with SQUARE inches... Big boxes with lots of cubic inches is easy, but it takes square inches of drawer space to get the tools organized...

Hi, neighbor. I've been seeing tool chests I want, too, but the brutal winter weather has kept me from getting too excited about driving to get them. Plus, being in my 60s, I know I probably wouldn't be getting that many more years of usage from them.
