I'm finally getting ready to start my new house with a 40 x 30 shop in back. The shop will be sitting to the left of the house with the drive for the side entrance garage going straight back to the shop. What I'm needing help with is where to position the 2 post lift in the shop. I am going to put the lift on the left side of the shop and use the other side for my bikes etc. I'm thinking of putting a single garage door on the lift side because a double will be useless with the lift on that side. I'm going to put a workbench down the left side of the shop and was wondering where others are placing their lift. I will have the workbench on the left and nothing in front of the lift. How much room do you think I would need between the work bench and the left lift post ? Is there any other suggestions on where to position it ?
Thx...

Simply draw a sketch of your available space for the lift. Measure the width of the automobiles you plan to use. Then add enough walking space between the work bench and automobile, this should help determine where the center of you lift should be.
I opted for a single post in-ground lift and designed the installation so I could lower the lift into the floor when not in use and cover it with hinged diamond plate covers in order to not clutter my floor when not in use.

Assuming you have an existing garage or room with some clear floor space, try laying it all out with cardboard or blue tape on the floor. Then you can see how much space you need to walk around a bench, the lift column, and open a car door. Otherwise, search or browse a little and you'll find how much space other folks have.
