getting started

Moved in January 2009, I work lots so time to muck and renovate is limited. 780 square feet. I have installed copper air line with filter and 3 shut offs around perimeter, 2 work benches, one wood top and one with 1/8 steel plate top. Big old stereo, parts bins, power distro panel, (220 from house) Cushy floor out front of benches. Still lots to do, more to come. (camera dates are wrong, somebody is bound to comment lol)

I like the teddy bear in the flue pipe... I think I might have to swipe that idea when I change the furnace to a high effenciency side vent one. I am sure I can find a bunch of old teddys my 3 year old dosnt use any more...

Good looking building! I have to ask though, with all the open area around it, why no skylights?

You guys have good eyes to catch the teddy bear. I have a propane bazooka heater, only needs to run 20-30 minutes then I shut it off. So far I haven't died of aphyxiation. Next couple weeks I will yank out the chimney pipe. I did not build the building, so I don't know why there are no skylights.

Experimented with some clearance vinyl tile, should have painted floor first, figured I would get some lift, might re do later. Put up some drywall to brighten the space up.

I also am in the process of burying the main 220 line and I have run a water line out to the garage. Putting in some drainage too so my driveway wont heave and wash away when I get it in. 220 feet from house to garage. Big job for an old guy and an old machine.

Are those security bars on the insides of the windows?

Yes, they used to be an iron exterior hand railing. I cut it down and lag bolted them into the studs. The rottweiler outside is the first deterrent though.

One day I might get a drywall lift and do the ceiling too, but yes it sure did brighten up the shop. I love my shop and do work in it every night. It is enabling. Feel like I can fix, build or refurbish anything. Although my do it yourself sickness sometimes costs me more than hiring a pro to do it the first time.

That is why I hardly rode this year, no driveway to the garage.

I had no driveway out to my garage. Well, I have been burning everyspare minute getting one put in. In the process, I have became an expert rock hound, combing the countryside for all different shapes and size rocks and boulders.

MOST IMPORTANT TOOL a 1963 Nuffield 1060 tractor with a backhoe, front end loader and a 6 foot snow plow blade (not shown)

makeshift retaining wall, this will later be covered with some better looking block, but for now it is holding the fill

Next, about 50 tons of B gravel to build a base for the ramp off the main driveway

And a retaining wall, under it is 300 feet of trench 3 feet deep, with a weeping/drainage hose, cold water supply and 220 power in conduit out to the shop. This was a major chore.

COMPLETED WALL (with new sliding door off living room)

Another 60 ton of limestone screening alot of grading and packing and Voila--

To retain the on ramp, it was massive boulder collecting

And with the sliding patio door, I can enjoy the view from my living room

A new update in my humble garage. I built this counter with a cold water sink and a tee for the hose connection so I no longer have to keep hooking and unhooking whenever I run the pressure washer. It was all built by freecycled stuff, sink found in garbage, all wood was remnants from other projects. Only real new item were the maple raised panel doors which I picked up for $9 a piece.
