Getting the new toolbox organized

Well I have been working to organize the new toolbox.
its amazing how much fretting goes into this, but I am assuming I will have this box for a very long time

only this far and so much more to do

It can be an almost overwhelming task if you let it get to you. I started marking my new box drawers with masking tape, labeled for what was going inside. Doing so, I tried to keep a real similar layout to the old box. I bought some Ernst organizing stuff to make it a better layout.

I guess the only reason I fret over this is because how I do it odds are will stay this way for the next 20 years…..or the rest of my life….

these drawers are bigger so it can’t me direct and me really gain anything

Don’t be afraid to change things as your needs change.

My box stayed much the same for the last 15 years or so that I worked
Some drawers are still the same but many others have changed, some several times, since I retired and brought the box home.

BTW: Thanks for posting the picture of your Craftsman metric stubbies. I needed a large one changing a faucet under a laundry sink and was SURE the set went to 24mm.
Now I see I was wrong
They are a great set for the $. Too bad that Craftsman brand we knew is no more

Have you looked at the Ernst wrench organizers ? If the drawer is deep enough, it allows the wrench to be stored on edge and takes up way less space.

I really like the foam, I used to use the angled wrench organizers but I have found that laying them flat in the foam takes less space when you stack 2-3 of the same wrench

I observed that the sockets are stored with the square drive end facing upward. Is this orientation selected for functional or organizational reasons?

That's how the Hansen style socket trays are designed to hold sockets.

Nice looking box OP, the color is unique and I don't hate it! I like brighter colors in general for better light reflection etc. Red is fine for that but black boxes have never been my preference.
Thanks for sharing your drawer layouts. It is definitely a work in process, and like art, is never truly finished. You'll make changes as time goes on if necessary or for functional reasons that suit your changing needs. Keep us updated. cheers

It's an iterative process, whether we like it or not sometimes. You get new stuff in, realize it won't fit unless you re-organize, so you play around with it and find a new layout you then wish you'd thought of before. I went through that before vs. after adding Ernst organizers for the wrenches, which really only became necessary when I found that I had a few too many to keep organized any other way. Running out of space is a really good motivator to get creative.

If the layout looks like it should work for you, for now, then just roll with it. If it doesn't work, it'll be evident pretty quickly. Even if it does work pretty well, don't be too worried about playing around with it. After all, you can always go back.

If you look at the picture where a socket is missing you will see that is the orientation they meant them to be in.
some others have a square at the bottom for drive end down

Everyone has their own system and degree of OCD when doing so.

Lookin' good. I like to angle my wrenches as you can save a lot of room vs. laying them down flat.

I stared with laying them flat.
then as I got more I went to angled.

i have gone back to flat as most of the wrenches there are two of them stacked, and with some of the most common sizes there are three and four of them. So in my case laying flat and stacked in foam holds the most.
in other drawers where I just have one of each and sometimes two I still do the angled holders

I set mine up how I thought It needed to go

Then Fine tuned it
