GFIC motors and welders

I have had several issues with GFIC and now GFIC/AFIC.

In my old garage my welder which was on a non GFIC sub panel would trip a GFIC circuit breaker on my main panel. This would only happen if I stuck the tungsten or messed up in some other way welding etc. But since I **** at welding it is a PIA. So for my new shop I decided to put dual function GFIC/AFIC 120V receptacles non daisy chained. But I am finding some of my motors are tripping these. I have a 40 year old well used grinder that is on a GFIC only receptacle that will not run, yet my drill press runs fine off the same receptacle. I have a Milwaukee corded 1/2" angle drill that I plugged into a dual function GFIC/AFIC receptacle that will occasionally trip. The drill is about 30 years old but hardly used.

So what is the story with these. Is it normal or are my tools just too old? Is there any way I can tell if my drill is tripping based on GFCI or AFCI with a dual function receptacle? I haven't plugged all my other equipment in so I don't know what awaits me.

Thanks

Lots of older electric hand tools will trip a good GFCI. Leakage in the older windings is likely the culprit. I've had some that caused a good tingle under some circumstances. I'm sure those would had tripped a GFCI. But, I stopped using them before GFCIs invaded my shop.

That is what I was afraid of. I have yet to try out the rest of my tools. Any idea what a motor rewind cost for a 3/4 HP 3500RPM 1 phase grinder motor?
