Ghostshield questions

Hello All,

I just had a 22x36 garage built. Structure is complete, next comes electric and insulation.

I am in eastern PA, Collegeville area, so winter is on the way.

I really only want to seal and clear coat (is that correct term?) the floor to protect it a little.

Questions:
1. Is the correct order GhostShield 4500 then 8505?
2. Is this a good solution to protect from vehicle fluids and can I roll stuff across it like engine stand, jacks, etc...?
3.Do I have to wait until spring because of temperature?
4. Is having this done professionally better then me doing it DIY?

4. Very easy to put down. Sprayer and backroll.

Concrete must be cured at least 28 days

The products only need 24 hours before use but you need 7 days between the application of the two solutions. Can the garage be warmed at all?

Hi,
We carry Ghostshield and find that most customers buy the 8510 since it is a better product. RPH is correct, the proper way to do this is to densify w/ the 4500, wait about a week and then apply two coats of the sealer either 8505 or 8510.

Pricing is on our website. Unfortunately we don't discount Ghostshield since we don't make it and there is not much margin in it. Thank you.

This is a really easy application and you can do it. The only change I would make is to use the 8510. The manufacturer is giving us a great promotion on it starting after close tonight

The electric has not been run yet. so would probably have to wait until spring, ugh.

Also there is a 2' apron on the front and rear garage door that I think I'd want to coat as well, and that is outside the garage so I think I'd have to have pretty warm weather.

I would consider a ten gauge extension cord and infrared heat lamps to warm the concrete. Try to pick the best stretch of weather that you can. I live in Michigan so I understand winters coming! But you only need 45* and only for 24 hours. Do that twice and the garage can be used without concern. If you wait, you will use the garage and as life happens so will will bad things that make lif3 harder. The apron can be done in the spring. At least think about it. Happy Holiday!

The Ghostshield product finder (on their web site) recommends either using the water based 4500 densifier WITH the water based 8505 sealer or the solvent based 8510 sealer. It doesn't say that the 4500 is required when 8510 is used.

Apologies for the hi-jack but related question. Due to rain concerns over the last month and my work schedule, I was planning on applying the 8505 today. I applied the densifier over 3 weeks ago.

The temperature will rise to at least 45 today but will dip into the 30's overnight. The next couple of days will be dry. Is the 45 degree requirement for application only or does it affect curing?

To answer BLT questions the tech data of the dealers does recommend the densifier. The factory toll free number if you call will confirm this. If you don’t use the densifier your coverage of the more expensive sealer will fall and the product life will be shortened.

As for temps do not apply below 45 it may not cure properly. If you can apply it during the day when it’s north of 45 and have a 4-5 hour window should be ok as it has set up already so the overnight temps won’t be as important.

more questions:
1. Can I just run painters tape where it will end or will this stuff eat away at it. I was even thinking about taping up the rubber seal on the bottom of garage doors. Will that work.

2. I have two course of block above the pad. Do I have to cover the block, will this affect the block adversely?

3. The installation instructions on the Ghostshield website say use a roller to apply for both products. Why does everyone say spray it on?

Painter tape is fine but normally not used since you can apply right out to end of April.

As for the block ok to get some overspray in it. Once the product absorbs it you won’t be able to see it all.

As for application spray works better and works better than rolling. Avoid puddling.

Tape is fine, but no reason to run it under the door. I would 8510 the slab

Use a sprayer. Have a lambs wool roller handy for puddles

Don't stress about the blocks
