Here is a crummy, short video I shot of the giant grinder this morning. Hopefully later I will show it moving some metal. The mag sticks on, so I have to go flip the breaker to shut it off. It takes about 3 minutes to come to a stop on its own. The dust collection system comes on when the grinder does. Please excuse the mess around it.

What an awesome sound as it spins up. Do you grind on the side of those wheels? Please excuse my ignorance. I thought that was a no no.

Gtermini: now i have another tool to put on my wish list. damn that is awesome. so is your electric bill like another mortgage payment?

i noticed just a small grinder disk smoothing tool sitting on your monster. do you use that to clean up the wheels?

thanks for sharing and if you get time to post another video of it squaring up an end of some metal by all means post that video too.

Pendragon: normally you would be correct, but the 30 inch wheels on GT's grinder are meant to be used on that side of the disk. good question though and don't try doing that on the side of a regular bench grinder or the wheel might explode.

Do you have any idea of what that was designed for? It looks to be a bit specialized and more for a production use that a job shop item.

So does the tool rest move in towards the wheel when you move it toward the axis like that? And how DO you dress those wheels? Got the tool for it?

Thanks for the videos! At 1st I was unimpressed with the sparks till I noticed them underneath the T-slot table before they went up the chute. With all the sparks it produces and one guy grinding on each side that beast would probably heat the shop through the winter.

I think the exhaust fan motor is bigger than my grinder.

1+ for making this a grinder video thread. Share what you have. :rocker:

So does the tool rest move in towards the wheel when you move it toward the axis like that? And how DO you dress those wheels? Got the tool for it?

The rests are dovetailed slides with a graduated adjustment on the stop. There is a hand lever that moves the rests in and out perpendicular to the wheel face. You back the stop off each pass and swing the work across the wheel face. I am not sure of the actual dressing method, but I would guess you would rock the rest with a dressing tool across the face. The wheels on it now are shot, with the mounting pins exposed on the periphery. They are very course, like 18-24 grit and extremely friable to cut cool.

It doesn't look like much, but each pass was 0.030" off the end of that piece of railroad track. It didn't get it hot enough to burn me after taking off maybe 3/16". It can move some serious metal in a hurry.

Wrenchguy, you need a bigger welder/gen. It makes that 7hp grinder look teeny lol. I have a 3hp 14" us electrical grinder, that big P&H is really somethin'. Thanks for sharing!

The largest grinder I have seen in person was this Marschke by Black and Decker i believe the tag reads its a 24"x4". Not as cool as a video of one in action though.
