Gifted an m18 tool without a battery

My mother gave me an M18 hackzall back in the spring, thinking it worked with my M12 line. I didn't notice the mistake until the other day, well after the box got tossed during the business of summer.

I am pretty deep in the Dewalt 20v for bigger tools, but love my m12 stuff for their size and weight.

Would I be better off trying to sell this to fund buying the m12 version, picking up a battery adapter, or hoping for a good black Friday sale on m18 starter sets and get into yet another battery system?

Pick up a Dewalt-to-M18 battery adapter from Amazon... problem solved. For best results don't charge with the battery adapter or run it down to zero charge

I wouldn't be able to charge with the adapter, since I don't have an m18 charger.

Having multiple battery platforms doesn’t bother me, but, in your case, I would recommend that you sell the bare M18 tool on marketplace and use the proceeds towarss a Dewalt 20 volt equivalent.

There’s a pretty high demand for unused Milwaukee tools, and you will probably be money ahead buying a new Dewalt bare tool, and using your current batteries and charger when all is said and done.

I know adapters are another solution, and in fact I use one on my old Dewalt 18v drill, but it’s sort of a kluge setup in my opinion (and experience), with ergonomics lacking and all.

I think you misunderstood the suggestion. It would allow you to use your DeWalt batteries in the M18 tool. You don’t need an M18 charger.
He was replying to a post that said not to charge with the adapter. To me that would imply trying to charge the Dewalt battery on a Milwaukee charger.

That's kind of what I'm thinking, the only downside is dealing with the people I don't know.
