I've been on here for - well, a bunch of years. Suddenly, this week, in order to go back from wherever I am, I have to hit the back arrow twice.

Same computer, same OS for at least a decade. Same browser (Firefox) since IE decided it didn't like me anymore at least 5 years ago.

It always was click back arrow once, it backs up 1 step.

This doesn't even make it onto the list of annoyances; I'm just puzzled. Is it at my end or has GJ actually changed?:dunno:

One click for me. I just wish when you finish reading a post it would take you back to where you left off, instead of going back to the first page.

Just you. What happens the first time you click back?

First click, a right arrow appears just to the right of the left arrow, between it and the rest of the title bar.
Second click, it goes back t the previous page.

And it continues, even backing up several pages. Now it takes two clicks for every page.

Hard reboot - no. My elderly computer takes a looooonnnnggg time to boot up - 10 minutes sometimes (and this has increased over the years) so now I leave it on.

Log in, log off - yes. Every time I leave the GJ site it logs me off. I log in again every time I return to the site.

"reboot" the monitor -

The sad thing is stopping and starting (aka rebooting, power cycle) fixes so much these days.

We had motion sensing lights at work that stopped working with the manual switches, they automatic part worked properly. I suggested to the facilities guys that they disconnect power and reconnect. They laughed at me, but a week later the power went off, and they started working properly after that. I'm not sure what they did with the new switches when they came in. :lol_hitti

Well, that's 10 minutes I'll never get back.
Did a cold reboot, and it still takes two back-arrow clicks to go back one page.

Oh, well.:dunno:

My guess now is someone has surreptitiously installed a semi malicious addon to your Firefox.

Does the address bar change after the first back button press?

That is true. And then there is,
“You might need to reinstall windows 10”

>>> umm.. "re"??

Seriously though - could it be a mouse setting thing?

>>> mouse setting?? a) trackball - I'll NEVER go back to a mouse. b) what's to set? Plug it in, it works.
Seriously - what settings?? - and bear in mind the back arrow still works as it always has on every other program I use: one click= one page back.

I was looking for a keyboard shortcut that you might have triggered to double click to select but did not find it. That is probably what has happened to you. What browser are you using. I didn't see any windows 10 key shortcuts but you need to search in your browser and windows version for the "double click to select" key stroke.

I'm moving this to the Q&A section since Ryan doesn't visit Free Parking often.

Have you changed any of your user settings here ?

The only issue I have noticed over the last few weeks is clicking out of viewing attachments, it takes me back up a few posts. It doesn't leave me at the post with attachments I was looking at.

Also if every time you leave GJ, you have to log back in, I'd guess you're not clicking "Remember Me" when you log in.

If your PC truly takes 10 minutes to boot then you seriously need to upgrade your hardware. That's not normal. A moderate new machine with SSHD will boot in less than 20 seconds.

Also, press the ALT key and left arrow and see if that takes you back a page. It's the equivalent of hitting the back arrow on most web pages. ALT and right arrow is page forward.
