I am a toolaholic. I don't belong here. Like a drunk at an open bar. I live overseas and come to America once a year. There are at least 2 grand worth of tools I haven't seen yet and don't need waiting for me at home thanks to you guys. Read a post here the other day about the 2 foot ratchet for a 3/4 drive set being inadequate and one of you cretins suggested the 42 inch Wright ratchet. I looked at it and ordered one along with another set of metric and standard Wright grip box ends. I have drawers full of Snap-On box ends. Cut me some slack guys. Please don't post pictures of shiny cool tools. I do not have strength to resist. :shocking:

Pffft... My wife actually said something scary 2 days ago... and mind you she has seen the empty box piles in my office... "Don't worry, I will never complain about you getting new tools..."

I felt like the squirrel in the movie Ice Age, firmly holding the acorn...

I do however feel your pain.

Nah, if she's anything like my GF, she probably figures that a Wright 42" ratchet just about equals a pair of Christian Loubotin CFM stilettos...

I would also suggest a gander at some tool organization threads... Did you know that with the right combination of socket, wrench, and plier racks you can fit MORE tools in your box? And they look so nice all neatly tucked in there and organized. However whether or not you have already accomplished the master level of organization shown by many on here I'm sure you've already come to the conclusion that you need more tool storage anyway. :lol_hitti

What the heck are you doing over in a sandbox, away from your tools? That ***** that you don't get to use them. Hey, have them mailed to me and I will use them. I just made more room in my toolbox and garage after reading this forum. I saw the thread on the organizer for pliers, but I didn't like the idea of the washers. Home Depot and Lowes get way too much for their aluminum so I went to my huge metal supplier. They had aluminum on clearance for 99 cents per pound, so I stocked up on some items that could be used for projects down the road. They had 1" flat stock in the section as well. I spent way too long trying to decide how much space to leave for my pliers and how tall the rack should be, then I cut it all out of 1" flat stock (some 1/8" and some 1/4" because I used all the 1/8") and I tig welded the rack together. It takes less room and looks better, but was a PITA to get it welded up without a fancy welding table.

Yes, this forum *****. It has cost me time and money.

I don't mean to thread jack, but I know people like pictures and you guys can suffer through it since I have been on a couple week long cleaning spree on my garage after spending a bunch time reading this forum.

My Journeyman Klein Linemans and craftsman pro needle nose are in my tech bag, in my work truck. I really like klein stuff. My mom knows the owner of Klein (a woman), as she also owns a company in the industry we work in, and my mom and that lady both do quilting and talk online. I worked in construction before I started working for my parents, so I used klein for electrical work. I have not met the woman and didn't know anything about the company, so hopefully my mom's story is accurate.

That ratchet IS priced rather nicely, and it WOULD be much SAFER then continuing to use a snipe-pipe on my beat up old junk one... I don't think I need any more justification...

Man, I was reading through this string and thinking, "Ha, that 42" ratchet is likely $300," then I checking it out on Epstein's. Less than $200. Man. However, I don't need it. Man.

Need? What is this 'need' you speak of?

I was, actually, trying to be facetious.

I joined GJ two years ago this month, innocently, and had no plan to buy any tools. Within two weeks, I found a "Hot Deals" heads-up for a set of Craftsman USA wrenches [a lot of wrenches], $300 for $85. I ordered them. Two months later, I ordered a 56" box from StrictlyToolBoxes.com. Still ordering stuff. The ToolVault is full, mostly, and I ended up keeping the old Waterloo I was gonna sell to offset some cost of the new box. It isn't going anywhere.

Yeah, the hot deals thread has cost me a fair bit of change.

And I was just joking as well. I'd probably be money ahead if I just would have paid somebody else to keep my junk running.

HOT DEALS thread WTF I have missed that one,
I just got here not to long ago, and the only reason I ended up here I was doing a google search looking for ways to make me a battery charging station. could have cared less about tool's I have a good bit of old craftsman from the 90s. now Im out making pawn shop's every weekend looking for deals, I got 3 new tool boxes in the last 3 weeks and my shop is still not finished yet (waiting on concrete contractors) last week I scored a 9 piece set of Mac SAE wrenches for $45.00 this is the worst drug in the world......:lol_hitti

Here is something wrote to another guy who was addressing a potential addiction (and make no mistake, you have an addiction that needs to be addressed)

Here is the full thread that may have some advice
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=261989

Good move, MetalDad!
I think you made the right move today.

Just because something is cheap, it doesn't mean it's worth buying. What if I sold you a $500 pair of high heels for $50? Waste of $50, right? Same might go for tools you already have ..

I think it's smart to think about why you buy so many tools. Maybe this is a form of hoarding or addiction.

Maybe a addiction checklist can help to see if you have a problem?
1. You have many unopened or tagged items in your closet
2. You often purchase things you don’t need or didn’t plan to buy
3. An argument or frustration sparks an urge to shop
4. You experience a rush of excitement when you buy
5. Purchases are followed by feelings of remorse
6. You try to conceal your shopping habits
7. You feel anxious on the days you don’t shop

http://www.webmd.com/mental-health/features/shopping-spree-addiction
http://www.wikihow.com/Stop-Compulsive-Shopping

Other things to consider if you're saturated, yet still buying tools...

Maybe you need to focus your energies on something new to collect? Or a new hobby.

Or maybe find smarter ways to direct your excess income?
Do you invest for retirement or kids college?
If not, money might be better allocated there.
PM me if you want to start reading some basics.

Don't forget vintage Vise Grips, made in Dewitt

And old USA c clamps, how many hammers do you have.

You need those, believe us.

I feel your pain too. I first came to this site for drawer organization, and 9 months later I've spent nearly $7500 on new tools and an extra toolbox. All if which based upon recommendations from Garage Journal.

Harry Epstein's SK Day, was a lot of fun and yes, I already need another tool box.

Well there are tax advantages by staying out of USA 330 of 365 days. If the job is oil fields then there is more than enough money to pay for tools never to be seen.

id rather pull a motor or trans anyday of the week than pull a dash.
and a heater core? no way, unless its an early car or truck where it's on the firewall(under the hood).
the point is more tools and options of tools make tough jobs easier/quicker.

1st- you learned the advantage of multiple/choices of tools
2nd- you got the satisfaction of doin it yourself
3rd- you're welcome

4th- i may misquote bill cosby, but at the beginning of the fat albert show i think he said "if your not careful you might learn something"

i'm learning every day:thumbup:
