Gladiator Cabinets - extra shelf?

I searched thru several pages trying to discover an answer to my question, but no luck. Forgive me if this has been asked before and I missed it.

I bought a Gladiator large gearbox from Lowes. it is 36" x 18" x 72". For the materials I will be storing in it, I could use an extra shelf (or probably two). I called Gladiator and they said I could sure buy extra shelves at $33 each plus shipping. I want to stay with the nice OEM look of the unit, but at $66 plus shipping for a unit that cost me $220, I feel, well, a little too cheap with this option.

My question is there an alternative dealer to buy such an item from at something better than MSRP? I am sure if I asked at Lowes they would probably be scratching their head.

If not, I am likely to use some plastic shelving and cut it to fit inside.

Thanks for the chance to ask this.

Best,

Jamey Williams

I called gladiator and they wanted a small fortune plus shipping for the shelves.
It was not worth it to me, so I bought a $14 plastic shelving unit at lowes and cut the pipes to fit making the new shelves the height I wanted inbetween the original gladiator shelves.
It worked great and looks good in my opinion.

I never did find a retailer online that sold the shelves separate either. I would expect a retailer to be better priced than the manufacturer, but no-go.
Good luck.

Grab a tape measure, some sheet metal, a hammer, and a 2x4? Drill 4 holes, finish w/ some spray paint? You can even get hammer textured paint. :)

I s there a local metal/welding shop nearby that could make shelves for you? Take one of the shelves with you and ask if they can duplicate it. They should have stock available and they can easily cut sheets to size and then bend any corners. You could specifiy the thickness you want and all you have to do would be to clean up the surface and paint it.

A local powdercoater could even duplicate the original finish if you wanted to go that way.
