Hi all,
I just purchased a bunch of Gladiator gearwall to install in the workshop that I am building (not finished yet). In the meantime I installed a small section in my utility room in a nook/cranny that was wasted space.
I thought I'd share two tips that might be useful to others.
1. I didn't want to use the white screws that Gladiator makes for attaching the panels to the wall. They use a phillips head which I hate, and I've read that the white paint interferes with the phillips head and causes stripping. Instead, I used GRK white trim head screws for composite materials. The head on these is tiny and use a T10 head. These are made for composite materials (like decking), so it would seem they are a perfect match for the wall panels. They are also a bit longer at 2.5".
2. The trim strips that Gladiator makes are not very good quality (I've read the plastic is brittle) and don't fit great. I found that using standard white vinyl siding J-channel worked great and is cheaper to boot. I purchased item #6550 from Lowes. A 14-foot section of this trim is $5.48. The dimensions matched the wall panels perfectly.
I haven't decided which hooks and accessories I'll use yet. I will have to mess around with what I want to hang on the wall.
Hopefully this helps someone
