Gladiator tool boxes, cabinets - any good?

Hello,

I received an 8' Gladiator workbench for Christmas and am in the market for some cabinets and rolling tool boxes as I overhaul my garage.

I was thinking about sticking with Gladiator for uniformity, but I can't find their case goods in stock anywhere to assess the quality.

Anyone have any experience with them?

Thanks,

I like them. I have a few wall cabs and a rolling cabinet, the rolling cabinet is welded and very stout, the wall cabinets you have to bolt together, not the simplest of things but still heavy duty enough for cabinet duty.

I'm happy with my Gladiator wall cabinets. 3) 24x24 RTA's and 5) 30x 30's welded. also have the Geartrack wall panels with some shelves and storage bins.

I have several 30" welded cabinets and one that I put together. I did it for uniformity, and the welded versions I started with are great. Fairly heavy duty and they can be locked securely. The one I put together has a fold down table; not as solid as the welded, but it works very well.

I'd buy them again.

You should be able to find them at any Sears store. Maybe even on clearance at a Sears Outlet store. Lowes has some cabinets, but I believe they're phasing them out for their own brand. Most Lowes stores here have their stock dwindling down to nothing or it's special order.

Went with their bolt together cabinets for my garage and I have been very happy with them so far. Easy enough to assemble and mount up. I went straight to the studs with 5/16" lag bolts. Love the way they look. Liked it so much I painted my pegboard and workbench frame similar colors to keep the theme going.

I dig um. Cut a hole in the shelf of the middle one for a quad outlet

Gladiator has 2 grades... the ones you put together and the original gladiator that are super sturdy and come assembled. I have no experience with the first but LOVE the second

Have the pre-assembled units and am very happy with them.

Have upright cabinets, work benches, and cabinets.

I also have bought 7 ready to assemble shelving for the basement and love it. My biggest complaint is the amount of cardboard / packing garage that they use (to protect the cabinets).

The Garage track also is quite handy.

Will definitely buy more as I can organize the garage better and figure out where I want to put more storage.

Hey 92GreenYJ, I see you have your work space divided into sections maybe 4 sections. Do tell us about it. I didn't see a link to your own garage/shop build. I don't either, something I need to work on.

Yeah, I need to get around to doing a build thread. Not to hijack this one, but short story is wife an I bought our first home seven months or so ago. Went from a 1.5 shared garage bursting at the seems with my stuff, my moms, etc into the 2 car. I had been planning my dream garage set up for months. The sectional workbench was an idea I had that I just loved. Each section is dedicated to a specific task. Further one back by the wife's section (washer dryer) is strictly for electrical and electronics. Next down is my loading and gun cleaning/maintenance bench. Biggest wood top is a general workbench for whatever, and the one closest to the garage door has a 3/16" steel top and is my welding table. I also used LED strip lighting mounted to the bottom of the cabs to light the benches, each section is controlled independently via a switch on that section of bench. Each has a 4 foot outlet strip as well and as you can see, air lines between each section as well.

I hate to go against the grain here, and I will probably catch a bit of flak in the process, but I don't like them. My main point of contention though might just be with the way they ship those cabinets out. Receiving a 6 foot tall, 125lb package shipped out of Georgia to arrive in California via UPS has not ended well. I've order 5 cabinets, returned 4, reordered 4 more, returned 4, reordered 4 more again and returned 3, reordered 3 more and returned 2. That cardboard packing, though excessive, doesn't do the trick when the packages get dropped on the corners which cause them to buckle and crack. Not one cabinet I have kept isn't without damage. /rant

But another issue I have is I wanted to hang these cabinets up on the wall. 1. They don't already come with hanger systems. They are $20 for the brackets and $20 for the track. and 2. The back of the cabinets are paneled which to me makes the structure somewhat flimsy to be mounted to a wall. Just my thoughts. And granted these are for the larger lockers and not the smaller above work table cabinets.

The prebuilt ones are good, i have 5 wall cabinets, sears has them on sale for $99 one year. I think they are the best cabinet for the money.

I have 4 of the assemble yourself models and every one had some damage from shipping, yes I was able to repair and arrange the cabinets to hide the repairs but not a satisfied customer, the metal is paper thin and flimsy!
They look good hanging now though.

I've got the welded 30" wall cabinets, a 24" welded wall cabinet, a couple of the rolling lower cabinets and the workbench. I paid more than I should have, but couldn't be happier with any of it. Great stuff!

I have 2 of the 30 welded and 4 of the 24 welded cabinets. I think they are very nice for the money. I couldn't have built anything as nice for the same price.

I have been looking at the Gladiator cabinets. Sears runs good pricing, but Lowes will price match and then beat by 10%. And.. if you would like to save even more just purchase a discounted gift card ( I got 10.6% off card) from an online site and use it for savings. I'm thinking I can get the 66" tall welded cabinet GATB302DRG for about $253 regular price at Lowes is 415.60.
