$299 at the Woodland CA Costco will get you both of these:

I wish they would sell the Made in USA versions as these are made in China. Anyone have experience with these? Otherwise its about $500 on Amazon.

Costco is one of the fundraising arms of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) so why would they sell domestic???

WalMart,Target, Home Depot, Lowes, Sears/ K Mart/ OSH, are some of the others.

Be careful what you say. Locally we just had a judgement of $7+million, when one Toyota dealer referred to another Toyota dealer owned by a man of Iranian descent as "Taliban Toyota", and said that he supported terrorists. One time I'm on the Iranian guys side.

I saw this 2pc set at Costco last weekend. I really like the look compared to cheap HF tool cabinet/chest combos, and it looks like it is built better. And at $299, this is a steal. Has anyone taken the plunge in buying one to report the build quality?

I checked it out today. Ok, I guess for small, hobby type chest IMO.

Drawers slides and construction was mediocre, middle to low end Craftsman quality. But if the size is ok, and you're a hobbyist, small tinkerer, this Gladiator combo is worth it.

The faux pas tread plate, silver **** is bad.

Did you read the lone review on Amazon? It went something like "avoid this cheap Chinese junk...". It's nice looking and I'm not above buying it but the lone review is a bad one. I guess you've seen it in person and are impressed.

Heh. The faux diamond plate is actually something I very much dislike about my Gladiator garage freezer. I'm sort of keeping my eye out for a broken black Whirlpool unit (same manufacturer) so that I can change the doors...

Is it real stainless steel? How about the drawer sliders - did they slide easily?

Maybe I should check out some craftsman 2pc tool chest/cabinet combos for the same price.

No stainless, everything is powder coated / painted.

Drawers slides ok, but are shallow. Didn't see any weight ratings on the rawer capacity.

You probably aren't going to find an upper and lower any cheaper.

Go into any one of those stores & prove me wrong, Costco's stock other then food/alcohol/large appliances seems to be mostly of ChiCom origin.:mad

BTW, calling someone "Taliban" or a "Terrorist" is a libelous or a slanderous comment.

Along the same lines, at my local Costco (Merrillville, IN), a few weeks ago I scored a Gladiator Garage Works package consisting of a 73" work bench with a solid 1 1/2" bamboo top, a three-drawer storage cabinet, and a two door cabinet with three shelves, all in the painted diamond plate Gladiator look...$399.00! Looking online showed that purchased separately, the items would cost anywhere from $1200.00 to $1700.00. A good deal, I think.

Regarding the "chi-com" and "PLA"...wow! Ours is a global economy...no getting around it. If you want to vent, why not do it with your elected representatives? They can provide the venue where the disparity between US tariffs and Chinese tariffs could be discussed and perhaps equalized.

Just sayin'.......

I like the set. If I move one step up (USA built Gladiator Premiere Series), the drawers are deeper, feels sturdier however costs 2x as much on sale at Sears.

What to do...

Well, FWIW, I'm pleased with the Costco set I referred to above. The workbench is very heavy and solid. The cabinets are not as heavy or solid as my previously-purchased Premiere Series Gladiator GW stuff (at Direct Buy...saved enough on this one purchase to pay for the membership for a few years!), but since they're tucked under that horse of a workbench, I think they'll work nicely.

I say, what the hell? Get 'em, and if they begin to fail, just store light stuff in them. It's not that large an investment.
