Gladiator ToolChest Questions/Review

Any gladiator owners out there with their 52" base(GATR5210WG) and 7 drawer base(GATR27P7WG)?

I installed some and I'm having some quality issues. The center support on the 52" sags a bit and is causing the wider upper drawer to pull from the lower guide rail support. This makes closing and opening the drawer hard. I have to literally force close it. I've worked with Gladiator and they're going to send me a new unit but I'm not confident that's actually going to do anything and there's just an inherent issue with the gauge steel that's used to construct the units.

Additionally the draw rails on the 52" unit are different then the 7 drawer unit. The 7 drawer bases slide easy and spring closed. All of the drawers on the 52" base you need to push them closed and then push a little hard for the final inch to get them to seat all the way closed. This isn't something you want to have to do when going in and out of a drawer often and just takes away the quality feel.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. I scoured the vast amount of poor reviews on the units on sites that sell them but haven't found anything in regards to my issues. Figured garage journal would be a good place to ask.

Figured I'd post an update. Gladiator replaced the box and the new one does not have the sag. Assume it was caused during welding and it just pulled down. Anyways the new box is good to go.

I have looked at Gladiator on and off for a few years - always thought they looked ok from a distance but up close the quality really seemed poor for the price. Just my opinion. I have a few of the "economy" Craftsman which are really cheap, but I bought them scratch and dent for almost nothing so I'm not disappointed. Plus, I don't put 100# of tools in the drawers. I just always thought that if I was going to spend lot on a box I'd go with either a truck brand or find some used Vidmar so that quality was never an issue.

Glad you got your box fixed though - customer service is worth a lot these days!

I've had the same experience. They look good, but whenever I go feel one up in the store they're not quite what I'm expecting.

Your setup looks VERY slick though! Really looks great. The wood burn/stain logo thing is really cool too. Glad Gladiator stepped up to the plate and replaced faulty equipment. Have to respect that.

Fyi for anyone looking for cabinets I got a couple of those 3/4 ones on clearance for $27 at Walmart. The full length weren't much more.

I don't know. I paid 40% off at least when I bought everything together and I'd say quality is on par for that price. They always go on sale so I know I can buy more when I need to grow again. My old stainless craftsman that I out grew was def better quality all around. Gauge metal, rails, full extension draws, handles, sharp edges, etc, but I think these still server the purpose. The way I have everything mounted together really sures them up. I think if they were separate standing I might have a different feeling on them. I like for things to match and there's really not anyone other then the big names like lista that have both cabinets and bases that you can make an entire setup out of. A single cabinet from them would cost almost what I paid for everything.

Yeah customer service was helpful and I almost got to keep the damages unit as well which would have been nice. Thanks for the kind words!

They were stacked up in the aisle with a clearance sign. I would have picked up some gearwall pieces and accessories too but nothing had prices & I didn't have time to take each thing to the price checker. It looked like they were trying to clear stuff out for inventory.
