I am outfitting my 20x20 garage in cabinets and workbench. I am looking to spend between $2500-2700.

That price would set me up with a 10 piece Ulti-mate set (with workbench), and 8 wall cabinets.

With gladiator, I would be looking at A 6 piece cadet set (with workbench), 8 RTA wall cabinets, and 2 3' tall lockers.

If the price is pretty much even, which would be a better route to take? The main difference I see is the difference of the work tops. Gladiator is solid wood and Ulti-mate is a type of laminate.

I would like to line the front wall with bench, base cabinets, and 2 lockers. The two walls will have 4 wall cabinets on each (8ft of cabinets)

I wouldn't touch the cadet series. It's the "budget" line from gladiator. Keep your eyes open at Lowes for sales and coupons and on craigslist. I have the Gladiator Garageworks (Ready-to-assemble from Lowes). Lowes regularly runs specials like buy a tall cabinet get a wall cabinet free.

I actually think the Seville line is the best deal. Sams club sells them. Give them a search on this forum.

For that money I would get a bid for custom built cabinets by a handy carpenter type. Would like be cheaper and would likely result in more storage and out would be exactly what you want.

Ulti-mate cabinets are knock down MDF cabinets. Gladiator Cadets are metal with a diamond plate finish. Have you considered using metal commercial storage cabinets. Sandusky makes cabinets used by schools and offices. If they hold up to reams of paper they are heavy enough for most uses except maybe bolt storage. They come in 36", 42", 72" tall cabinets and come in 11 colors. Check them out here.
