Gladiator Wall Mount Cabinet Question

I am mounting 2-28" gearbox cabinets side-by-side. There is only one location for the mounting, and unfortunately the studs are not where they need to be to direct mount the cabinets to the wall. I was thinking about using the 48" GearTrac centered between the two cabinets. The GearTrac would be able to capture 3 different studs and should be very secure. The question is the two cabinets are 56" total which would be mounted to the 48" GearTrac leaving 4" on each side not attached to the GTrac. It seems to me that it would be satisfactory mounted that way, but thought I would get other opinions on it. Jerry

I just drilled holes in mine where the studs fell, and used 1/4" lags with washers.

I did the same thing with a different brand. I also set it on a 3/4" ledger board for good measure. The ledger board supports the weight and the bolts just prevent it from tipping out from the wall.

The problem is that in the 56" span there are just 3 studs. One of the 28" boxes could be drilled and anchored to 2 studs, but the other one only 1, which wouldn't be a good idea. I think that the GearTrac positioned over the 3 studs would satisfactorily support the 56" span of the 2 cabinets. However, the ledger board also seems like a good idea. Jerry

When I hung two (bolted together) up in the garage I just built a square frame out of 2x4's and mounted it to the studs and lag bolted the cabinets to the square frame.

What vertical spacing is being used between the worktable and hanging cabinets? Is 24" too much? I have 8' walls and the cabinets are 28" high.

I had a similar experience when I hung my four 30" Gladiator wall cabinets. It happened that one of my cabinets fell on one stud only so I tried the gear channel also. Once I did it though, I didn't like the looks of the cabinets being about 3/4 of an inch off the wall. So I decided to use the one stud with two 2-1/2" lag bolts with fender washers and also the four corners with those 50lb. screw-in drywall anchors. With a total of six mounting points it worked like a champ!
