My neighbor has a really cool boat port hole. the cover appears to be cast aluminum and the body and hardware is brass. The brass has been painted and he attempted to use paint stripper, it did not work. He asked me about blasting it, ive never had to blast brass. Im just curious if this is the route to go or is there better way to remove the paint? I assume that is we did blast it, the brass would look dull and would need some heavy polishing. thanks

Try a different stripper. If you blast it, you have to be careful not to unevenly erode the brass leaving it with dimples or a wavy surface. You might be able to use plastic or soda media but you will be playing a balancing game with media, cut and surface finish. And it does seem likely that if you blast you will have to re-polish the brass after.

I have bead blasted brass marine fittings many times.
Glass beads will leave you with a smooth, satin finish. If you want a high polish, you will need to wet sand or steel wool and polish after the blasting.
I imaging you will need to do this anyway after getting the paint off.
