I’ve used them in my build, was looking for the vintage look.
Pretty sure they can not be used for basement windows in my jurisdiction as windows are put in as a point of egress.

That looks really nice. IDK about in Canada, but around here you only need egress windows in a basement if it is a bedroom.

I cannot believe RTV silicone is longer lasting than a Portland cement mortar. Silicones last, what -- five to ten years? Mortar lasts generations. I have mortared glass block in my house when the boiler was converted from coal to gas and the coal chute was closed up probably in the 1940s and perhaps as late as the 1970s. it's doing fine.

I have 12 glass block windows I put in my shop. The brick/block wall had the window openings covered when I got the place. The glass blocks add natural light without showing off what is inside. They are silicone and seem to be just fine after 8 years.

I think you are thinking a different material.

Common 100% acid cure Silicone actually has yet an unknown length of life.

Skyscrapers worldwide have exterior glass mounted with it, and due to some chemical electro molecular bla bla reason it bonds to glass better than anything else.
