I need to build an additional garage and due to lack of space it must be attached to existing home. For that reason it must have a tremednous amount of window as to not block sunlight into home. I was contemplating building some type of Sunroom concept which would be ideal, however the issue of gettiing cars inside presents a problem, need a garge type glass door, any suggestions?

I think glass rooms are awesome....it would be killer as a garage to display what you have.....as long as your yard is gated and decent alarms.....if you have neither of these I would highly suggest not doing it because it wouldnt take much to break into the joint

A couple of concerns with this concept:

1. UV light damage (fading, etc) to the room's contents.

2. Temperature control (ever been in a greenhouse on a sunny day?)

Otherwise, I agree that it would be an incredible display area (especially as viewed from outside!).

Have you considered what your plans will do to the resale value of the home?

Most people that would be buying probably aren't garage junkies.

Glass garage doors are available- they are the commercial ones used at gas stations and fire departments. Look at what Overhead Door offers. Not cheap.

Don't forget about heating and cooling.

How much security is there in a vinyl sided building with fiberboard sheathing underneath? If they want in, they'll get in.

Very true, but I think it is more of a risk along the lines of people being able to see what is in the garage at all times.

I must say that Autoist's garage looks really nice and I'm a big fan of lots of windows.

I don't think "glass garage doors" are a common residential item.

No they are not, Here is my Glass door. The doors on the other end of the building are sheeted with translucent smoke grey fiberglass. Lots of light. Priivate property, on a private street in a private neighborhood, so I'm not worred about what someone will see, if they have come that far, they are just going to bust in anyhow.

Had to badger one garage door company to even come out and give an estimate. He told me they were "pretty expensive" and that he "didn't think I could afford one! I finally told him to tell me how much, and I'd be the judge of how much I could afford. Second door guy was an independent and came in several hundred less.

First attempt at an attachment, please bear with me if it doesn't come out.

For a new garage Use this:

Those are two layers of fiberglass over a metal frame with insulation. It's called Kallwall. Not cheap, but would meet meet your light requirements, and provide some privacy and a little insulation.
