Do any of you know if glass top cooking stoves can be repaired? My wife called me today to tell me that one of the burners does not heat any more. The unit is a basic model Fridgidaire range about 5 years old. I'm not at home so I can't take it apart to see what is wrong.

I have a Kenmore and I had to replace the glass top (long story...but it involved my 67 Camaro Center Console and a storage unit, when we were remodeling). As memory serves, there weren't many parts I couldn't get for it and the repair was straightforward.

Let' dumb this down a bit. Does the entire glass top have to be replace, or can your just replace individual burners? The glass is not broken, just no heat out of one of the burners.

I could have done my own searching, but I am using a work computer, the "man" kind of frowns on us camping out on the work computers.

Has any one actually had to make repairs on their own stove? can it be done? Am I cheaper ahead buying a new stove?

Gotta go before the internet police clamp down on me. Will check back in a few hours.

Many Thanks
Kirk

Burners are available individually. Not too hard to do. Possibly control gone bad.

I've had my wife tell me the burners were shot twice now. In both cases it was the switches that were bad. An easy fix, just be sure you get the right wattage switch. There's normally 2 sizes in a stove, sometimes 3.

I was thinking is might be a switch. I notice the "hot surface" indicator light doesn't light. Will work on this Saturday.

Thanks

There is also a temperature sensor in the burner. Works as a thermastat to control burner temperature. If it's not working replace the burner. Possible switch, possible open burner or control thermo in the burner.
