Hey guys, my name is Brian. I'm 21 years old, I'm a Cummins Diesel Technician, and I like to build hot rods in my spare time. I've been working in my Grandpa's shop since I was a little kid and have finally gotten tired of him dragging projects in and taking up all my space. :lol_hitti

So here's what I've been working on for a couple of weeks...

It's a 50'x80' foot shop/garage/apartment. 10" I beam legs and web trusses. 2x6 perlins and endwalls. One end has a 12'x14' roll up door, the side wall has two 10'x10' roll up doors and the opposing end wall has a 7'x16' garage door. The end with the garage door will have a 35'x25' garage with a 15'x25' paint booth built in beside it. Above the garage will be 875 square foot living quarters that will be finished out.

Havn't got a whole lot of tools bought yet... All I have so far is a 24 cfm 175psi tripple piston 7.5 hp Polar Air air compressor, Ben Pearson 12k lbs two post lift and a miller 200 welder, hasnt had 30 lbs of wire ran through it (for $550!!) Yes, the bottle and auto darking helmet came with it..

I do have a few questions fellas. I do want a checker board floor finish in the garage. Something cheap and reliable. I can't find the asphalt tiles in a solid black and white, all I've been able to come up with so far is the black and white tiles with the specs or whatever-you-want-to-call-it in them. They aren't a solid color. :headscrat Anybody know what else I can use?

I am looking for a quality steam cleaner. Something in the 1500-2000 dollar range.

Also I need a quality metal bandsaw. Really don't have a price range on this. I'd like to spend around a thousand dollars here. Perferably on a used commercial unit.

I know everybody loves to spend money, so lets get to it!!!

Here's a few pics for bragging rights. These are pics of cars we've either built or are building. Dad has a '58 bel air that he is itching to start on as soon as we get room.

Some enter the room quitely unnoticed, others come screaming down the road and slide sideways to a stop in front of the front door. Nice entry Brian, welcome to the forum. Now if you can get your general location in your profile.

The gentleman is a MASTER with the Grand Entrance. And to think he's just getting started. Cool.

I'm confused, how did y'all guess I am single?? :dunno:

YellowLakeWelding, it's a '46 with a 5" chop.

CMoultrie, I went with a local builder. He has been in the business for years and beat the next closest bid by 5-7k. I would build it myself but working 8-5 in town really limits my time. Not to mention that I helped a neighbor erect a red iron building similar in size and vowed I would never mess with that fiberglass insulation agian. My time is better spent at work and my money is better spent getting this thing put up.

930dreamer, No sir I won't kick him out.. cause I'm not going to ever let him in. Since I've moved out of his he won't need any more room.

Great building! I'm not sure if you meant you were looking for a horizontal or a vertical band saw. If you meant horizontal, I use one of these at work (Ellis 1600). They are virtually indestructible and work great. I have made thousands of cuts on mine. They can be found used as well because they are quite popular.

RocketKing, are you referring to the terquoise truck & Roger's shop in Green Forest?? Good ole Roger, he does alot of work for grandpa.

NUTTSGT, what good is an empty shop? :D We've got a few sets of quality hand tools in the old shop that we're going to rob along with a snap-on box. Just filled out a QSB or a QSP?? (I forgot exactly what they called it) at lowes with a loonnnggg list of 2x's and siding (fire break for the inside) and lights and flooring for the apartment and materials for the garage/booth/apt. Saved me nearly 2k dollars and my stuff should be delivered tomorrow :D

Harvey, I have an '06 and '94 cummins 2500's. The common rail is my daily driver and I purchased the twelve valve to swap into the '46 cab you seen earlier in this thread.

What a terrible place on the internet that cummins forum.

Nothing but bad people with bad ideas for my day dreams and wallet... ;)

Just giving ya a hard time Brian, this is Rex, when I popped on here and saw those big green trusses I knew that it had to be your build. Glad to see you guys got the welder, looks like a great deal!

I'm also known as blackdiesel or blackdiesel02. I've been kicked off DTR for years and am a member of CF and CompD. I don't post on them much. Theres to many idiotic posts to weed through to find something worth reading or replying to.

Ahh, Rex! How's Roger coming on your frame??

Local guy builds this truss, and that window will be in the apartment (aka man cave) which I will live in for a couple years. I plan on buying my greatgrandma's house that is right next to my building when she is done with it (she is in her 90's). So the 850 sq ft will do for now.

Finally got all the sheetmetal on and 3 of the 4 doors up. Too bad now is when the real work starts!! I have the garage/paint booth walls to stud up yet and then it is on to building the apartment.

I have a 12" I beam thats 35' long (one 25' section and one 10' section **** welded and fish plated) that is going to be the main support for the upstairs floor. I'm going to set it on two 2 3/8" metal posts built into the lower walls to support the weight. I need to get to work on this so stay tuned for the pics.

Did Adams Truss in Gentry do your trusses? That's where I got mine from and it looks very similar to what you've got. Awesome shop and toys you have there.
