I have a few pairs of Mechanix brand gloves that I have worn holes in the thumbs.

Has anyone else used something they like better?

I've had the same issues. I've resorted to buying the cheapest "mechanix" type work gloves I can find. Harbor Freight had some "Monster Garage" branded ones for like $8 a pair. I got four pairs.

I've melted mine (almost instantly) from touching hot steel.

Some of my buddies have had execellent luck with Tillman "true fit ultra" gloves. They're like the form fitted mechanix gloves except they have leather palms. $12 at Cyberweld. http://store.cyberweld.com/titrpegl.html

they're next on my list.

I really like the mechanix gloves. They were about $19, fit like a second skin and wear like iron.

I don't have problems with the Mechanix brand. I've torn a couple with tools that slipped but it was better than tearing my skin. Have not worn out a pair yet. Maybe you're just too *********!!! :rocker:

Follow the instructions to wash them and they stay nice for a long time. I've got a couple pairs of the insulated version for winter use, a couple pair of the padded for impact, and a couple general pair for other use.

I usually get them from sears, which happen to be mechanix brand, but only relabled (the tag says mechanix) I have a set of regular and a set of pro gloves, the pros are padded and I use those when Im using the impact (makes things a bit more comfortable) and I use the regulars for everything else.

I have heard that those gloves by gojo are awesome. I havent actually used a pair though. They are like super thick latex gloves, so they fit really tightly-> more dexterity. They are about 8$ a pair, if im not mistaken.

When Im doing REALLY nasty work I usually just use latex gloves though.

yeah, I think they are. I haven't priced them lately, but I think they were a little more expensive than Mechanixs as well. Mechanixs use better material and are better made.

I want to try the Ringers brand next.

Other than Nitrile gloves when using solvents and leather gloves for rough work'I can't use gloves for mechanical work-too clumsy,no feel for nuttin' and boltin'-maybe I'm just too old school.Dirt washes off, cuts heal and blood clots.

I'm thinking about picking up some gloves tomorrow at the Depot, because I'm going to be doing some wiring in the very cold, albeit inside, out of the wind, still cold. I don't guess that these types of gloves are very insulated, are they? I'd like to be able to feel my fingers after more than 10 minutes. Spent about 2 hours out in it today, and with just my leather gloves on, I literally could not feel my fingers at all.

I saw these gloves at HD last year that had a port for you to blow into. Your hot breath warms the gloves and your hands, but your breath was kept in some sort of channels inside the gloves, so the moisture wouldn't be a problem. I didn't buy them, so I can't give you a "first hand" report. (Ha ha).

Don't need no stinking gloves. Linesmen gloves when welding and latex when I'm into solvents or very oil/greasy work, otherwise I just don't like the feeling of gloves.

Oh.... that would be me! Bare hands here, too. I need to feel what I am doing.

I wear nitrile gloves if I am working with gear oil or any other nasty substance. The only other gloves that I use are welding gloves (more like gauntlets!). I use my welding gloves for pretty much everything that I'd need gloves for. They're big, heavy, and last a looooong time.

gloves

this is my first post on this forum,I want to express my thoughts on gloves.I have been a mechanic for 40+years,and have had more than my share of skinned knuckles and cut fingers. I wear gloves on almost every job I tackle, whether it is changing tires or rebuilding a differential. I dont buy "mechanics" gloves. I buy gloves from a glove guy at the swap meets. I usually pay about $5.oo for a dozen pairs. when they get greasy or worn I throw them away and getout another pair.I
have even bought kevlar gloves at the same price. I stock up at the fall swap meets and they last me all winter. I really dont feel comfortable working barehanded. Fwiw hands stay cleaner too.

I think it's a matter of what you are willing to force yourself to get used to. For even the most delicate brain surgery, the surgeon still has to wear gloves. If he can do that, I guess I can rebuild a carburetor wearing gloves. I just have the choice, where the surgeon doesn't.

Id like to add I wear gloves on the cold days at the track too... dexterity isnt really affected because without them your finger tips would be numb anyway

I never used to wear gloves but after first trying them a few years ago I wear them almost always now. Of course it depends on what type of job I'm doing but I'm usually working on 4x4 suspensions and heavy drivetrain components.... nothing delicate (or clean for that matter).

Besides protection, gloves also seem to give me that extra bit of ummph needed on a wrench at times.
