I have a old Logan lathe that the leather link v-belt finally rotted. I didn't want to take the lathe apart and install a regular v-belt so I bought one of the new poly-v- belts. It has to be adjusted too tight to prevent slipping. Does any one still make leather v-belts and if not do you know of a super glue that flexes? Have thought about cutting a regular v-belt at a slanted angle and gluing it after installation. Years ago I had a South Bend with a flat leather belt and had the staples in it. (never liked the slapping noise it made) It finally failed and I went to a horse tack shop and bought a piece of harness leather, chamfered the leather and glued it. It worked for several years till I sold the lathe.

I went to the auto parts store and bought a serpentine belt that was the right width, cut it to length, skyved (excuse the spelling) the ends and bonded them together with Loctite super glue. has been working great for a few months now. Got the idea from one of the home machinists message boards.

as above we used to use them a lot for sewing machines but we repurposed them for everything including the car in an emergency
