glue, styrofoam and insulation- advice requested

I'm planning on gluing some 2" thick styrofoam sheets to a couple of stone surfaces in order to prevent them from sucking up heat in the winter. These are cinderblock walls that are painted and in one instance, an area where the styrofoam will act as a kind of vapor barrier.

I'm thinking of using Liquid Nails as a glue to keep this stuff on the wall, any suggestions, recommendations, past experiences?

Am especially interested in past experiences, good or bad.

Be careful of the glue used as some will melt the styrofoam. Check to make sure liquid nails does not do this. If you have styrofoam with an aluminum facing on it, you should be fine.

Anything with acetone in it will vaporize the foam. Don't have a brand name handy but there is a special adhesive designed for this in caulk-tube format.

3M makes a spray adhesive that's formulated for use with foam. Spray it on both surfaces, let it tack up and stick it together. Works great. To hold foam against a wall, you do not need to cover the surface 100% with the adhesive. A 6" dot every 2 ft. will do the job.
