I think GM whored out their name to some no name Chinese tool manufacturer and sold these thru K-Mart or some other *mart.

They're homeowner quality vs. mechanic quality from what I've seen.

i can't speak for the wrenches but i have a couple of their sockets and they ****. Many have broken very easily. I bought them from o'reilys i believe and had no problem getting them warrantied but they kept breaking very easily. i can't ***** too much as they were replaced and i got them very cheap but i won't shell out any more of my money on any of their tools.

Yep. O'Reilys. I have some. Keep they in a bag of stuff I keep at my mom's for repairs at her house. As they break I throw them out...

I can't speak for the new ones sold at *marts and O'reilys but I've got a 1/4 and 3/8 drive socket set I bought at Sams Club years ago, I think it was my first real "set" They're USA made, very nice quality and never broken one. I still carry them under the seat of my pickup as a emergency set. If I remember correctly, Sams Club also had screwdrivers and wrenches at the time, but I couldn't afford all of it. I wish I'd gone back and gotten the rest.

GM Goodwrench tools are hit and miss when it comes to quality. They are made by Stanley and most of their new tools are nothing more then re-labeled wal-mart tools with a much higher price tag.

With that said, They are some good ones also. For example, their ratcheting wrenches are Blackhawk/proto clones. They even share the same GA warranty address. Unfortunately, they also share the same price tag if purchased new. Especially the singles. ($19.99 for a 7/16" non reversible wrench). But they can be had used quite cheap.
They also made composite adjustable wrenches that are clones of the Blue-point, Greenlee, pro-set etc brands. They even have the same PAT number on the handle.

IMO their warranty *****. I purchased my ratcheting wrench sets from O'rilleys and the 18mm had a deep scratch on it right out of the package. O'rilleys would not exchange it without the receipt (X-mas gift), and it took 6+ weeks for me to get it back from proto/blackhawk. And even then the new wrench came back as a "GM performance parts" wrench, not a "GM Goodwrench" (Same wrench with different name).
