Thanks man, thats what I needed to know. I don't dare ask how much that service would cost me every month!

The Tech 2 does not work on the 2010 and 2011 Camaros and this has been happening.Includes the Malibu Max too, dealerships have been encountering this and I have seen this.

According to NASTF, $55/48hrs or $275/3 months or $995/yr.

Rally, most manufacturer support isn't terribly expensive in the big scheme of things. For instance, GM factory service info is available for $20 for 72 hours of access. A year of factory service info is $1200. Seems fairly reasonable to me.

That's because that vehicle was designed to work with the GDS/GDS2. You can still use the Tech2 as a j2534 interface for programming modules, but it isn't supported as a diagnostic interface.

Price of the GM program service.GM.com went up to $1,200.00 a year.

The $995/yr I quoted him is for programing access only, which is what he asked about. The $1200 you quote is for service info. Helps to read the link I provided...

You can pick up the real ones on Ebay for about 2 grand - that's where I got mine. Remember you need to get the 32mb card programmed to be usable.

as has already been said... the real tech 2 runs $2k +

that obdii scanner website is probably a clone made overseas. might work forever, might **** out as soon as you turn it on.

and if you ever have to program a module, that cloned scanner is likely to to work improperly.

The other clue that it is a clone is the phone number, it is an international number, probably china. Found the VCM clone for Ford IDS for about a grand, looked at the coo and it was hong kong. Be carefully with clones, the VCM clone can actually cause some serious programming errors.

The clones are good ones.Only thing you don't do is install the updates in them, they crash when the updates are installed in them. The GM Tech 2 does not work on one Saturn model, there is a special Opel Tech 2 for this one since this model is an Opel.

Look at drew technology's they make the pass thru boxes for all major tool companys
Mimics tech 2 and others you need to program

But you will still need to pay for access to manufacturer software (except Honda)

Where can you get free Honda flashes?

Hyundai and Kia used to be free, and then they actually started selling some cars....if you have questions about cost of software go to http://http://www.nastf.org/i4a/pages/index.cfm?pageid=3291

the costs are listed there

Also you will need a DEDICATED pc, a J-2534 pass through box or cable if you are only working on one make (see Cardaq)

PS some manufacturers are making their diagnostic software available also through J2534 interface. (GM has a Tech II emulator which is almost as good as the real thing)

I have one of the China made ones and it works fine. For $350 including shipping from China the way I looked at it if it worked once it paid for itself. It's worked a lot more than once. If the car you have is older than 2007 they give you a DVD which contains all of the PCM reprogramming software and updates. If it's newer than 2007 you need to download the PCM reflashes from the AC-Delco website. Think about it for $350 you can either have a full blown Tech 2 or some cheap code reader. I took the chance and I'm glad I did.

If you want to buy a real Tech 2 there are quite a few from former dealer mechanics that they will sell. GM had a real good price on Tech 2 for mechanics at GM dealerships. Since GM has not used the Tech 2 since 2013 (and only on very few cars that late) many guys are selling theirs.

This does not count the guys getting out of GM dealerships.

Bosch will tell you if the Tech 2 is real if you give them the serial number, they can also tell you if it is stolen if the person it is stolen from call Bosch.

Honestly, if you are working on 2008 and older, it is hard to beat a VXNano that runs an emulated version of the Tech 2 for just over $100. It can do everything a Tech II can for those year models. The newer model vehicles can still be used but you will have to buy a 3 day subscription to GMs database for < $50 to get done what you need.

I received my Tech 2 from obd2tool.com, and I tried it with my Vette. It captured live data and I was able to activate the ABS solenoids.
It seems like it is the real deal.
