My 1980 vintage Makita palm sander that I bought new started spitting out some components of a plastic part. Still seems to work but I figured it’s day are numbered. So I updated to a 1965 vintage Craftsman that I found on Market Place. Even came with some vintage sandpaper. For $20., I think I did pretty good!

I think you did great. Make sure you blow it out a few times and it will outlive us all.

That hurts my hands just to look at...

Any reason you went after this instead of a more modern D/A?

I‘m frugal and like the old Craftsman tools. Plus with the original paper work included I have the parts diagram. The condition of this one was very good. And as noted above it will probably out last me! Just turned 65! Tried it out today and it’s actually much smoother than the Makita. The Makita is a 1/3 sheet and this is a 1/2 sheet size.

My dad had a similar sander..Your hands certainly had a 'tingle' after using it for a while!
I've had issue with my hands since my teens (20yrs later I found out it was a complication of a chronic illness), using something like this would cause near immediate tingling and a few days of pain.

Those modern gloves with the gel inside them are nice to wear if using machines like these.

Nice old sander, congratulations on finding it. My 1970's Black and Decker sander died recently and I had to replace it with a brand new one!

Armour Coated Abrasives. The same company that made canned hams. I wonder if the sandpaper uses hide based glues or if there's no real connection and it was just a corporate purchase to park cash?
