The idea of using way oil in chucks has been bandied about on the web. I tried it a while back in my 3 jaw, but just went back to Bison grease when I cleaned up the chuck. Feels much better.. the chuck can actually tighten progressively where as with the oil it would stop tightening in an on/off sort of way. The oil also got slung all over hell and back. Upon disassembly the chuck still had chips in it anyways, and had zero oil.

Guess there's a reason manufacturers use grease.
