Being a signpainter, I have some gold leaf here, and was wanting to gild something. Our front outdoor light had an eagle figurine 'finial' on top that was very tarnished with most of the paint gone. It's a cast aluminum or other non-ferrous metal, I believe.
Anyway, here's a pic of the finished job. In theory, I shouldn't have to ever finish it again, since gold is inert and you don't top coat a job like this-----it's just the bare leaf.
The pic doesn't begin to show the brillliance----especially on a overcast day like we have here today. This was taken yesterday when it was sunnier. I might do a second gild in a few areas today where there's a few pinholes-----a 3D item like this is difficult to gild in one shot.
