Gold MTSC tools?

I ended up with a few of these. The ratchet is very rough, are these safe to use or are they only for show?

Moore Drop Forge ratchet, same OEM to the Craftsman Ratchets.

Possibly the best deal to look for if you need a stubby/indexable ratchet. the only drawback is the low tooth count.

The tool is fully tempered alloy steel, and can be used as such.

I have the same ratchet, and I don't use it often, but there have been a few instances where it has saved me time, especially on manifold bolts.

Good tools, you can get them real cheap if you are patient. They also look funny in a toolbox covered in grease.

The "gold" isn't really gold, some type of plastic coating over the chrome. It will wear off.

Thanks for the responses. I'm going to use them. No sense in them sitting in a box for another 29 years. I'll grease the ratchet and see if that makes an improvement. It feels very rough, so it's either bone dry or whatever it was lubed with has dried up.

Same here as far as the dried up grease. I've collected three variations of that ratchet. The MTSC, Napa, and K-D. Still waiting patiently for the Matco version!

Snap On calls theirs a Multi Purpose ratchet, but it's slightly different, with a hole at the bottom as well.

I've had one of the Snap On ones for 40 years. It's a life saver in the right circumstances. Combined with a breaker bar and extensions it's amazing what it can reach.

Chrysler had a Gold Service Tech Award program or something similar back in the day. I've seen that ratchet head before along with 1/4dr socket sets and a few wrenches.

Isn't it a torque wrench adapter? At least that's what it looks like.
