The brand name cracks me up.... Power Fist. In my head, I hear an announcer for a monster truck showdown... "It's horsepower gone wild!"

Funny story so where to begin...

First I am color blind and what looks gold to you guys might be something different to me.

I picked up a snap on ratchet years ago that looks to me to be gold plated, so that got me thinking how on earth did that happen, was it some kind of mistake or did a company have it plated and they gave it away as some kind of award; and it got sold off.

Or was it one of those special gold plated tool sets, you know the 1 of 1000 and some guy just broke up the set and sold the items?

Or like I said the color looks funny to me and you guys will see it is chrome and not gold?

I will hunt for it and see if I can take some pictures so you guys can tell me just what color it is.

pictures as promised and I have not been drinking!

I asked my son to look and he confirmed it was gold in color; it is the one on the left side, the other one on the right side is dull silver in color.

I dont think its gold, as gold does not discolor unless exposed to extreme acids. Doing some googling, chrome plating can discolor from atmospheric contaminants causing a goldish brown tinge.

Canadian Tire had a ratchet/or set for sale a year or two ago, celebrating their 75th anniversary... Solid Gold!

Are you certain of this? CT is famous for their gold plated commemorative tools but solid gold makes me skeptical. Snap-on, mac and even CT actually print the karat info on the box. I have some CT that is 20 karat gold plated. The princess auto stuff I've seen is some sort of gold coloured plating (doesn't come close to real gold plating) unless these are something new.

Darn and here I thought I had the real Mc Coy and it was worth 10,00000 dollars. Say Goldfinger from above might like it for his collection by the way is he still alive and kicking?

I remember seeing craftsman offering gold plated ratchets probably five or seven years ago. Personally, if i can't use it, then i see no point in buying it.

I have one of these said gold plated ratchets kicking around somewhere in the garage.. will find a pic of it soon. I think it was from much longer than that, say closer to 10 years ago.

I thought that these ratchets could make cool gifts, or make some kind of award/ placque out of them

Impress your friends with your fancy taiwanese gold plated ratchet. Actually...the price isn't too bad and the tooth count isn't awful might make you feel like a king/magician for a while?!?

It looks a lot like my gold snap-on ratchet. I picked up a ratchet and socket set in a walnut box at the flea market 2 yrs. ago for $40. I figured the ratchet being new was worth that, but can't bring myself to use it. just sits in it's little box next to a couple snap-on belt buckles I found at a yard sale...wonder if they were leftovers from a special snap-on run that they just re-badged?

Sometimes I see the special edition gold plated socket and wrench sets, like the Mac one mentioned, at less than used tool truck brand prices and am always tempted to buy them and just use them. I wonder how they would hold up.

I know Mac has a mini-series of gold-plated tools. I wanted to buy the pearl and gold ratchet, they look nice.
