Golf Cart Garage

Background: My wife and I have a lakehouse about 2 hours away. It is in a gated community, and many folks have golf carts to drive to the beach and take for a sunset cruise. We don't have a garage at the lakehouse (yet), so i always kept the old golf cart outside. I just recently upgraded to a new cart, but I am not ready to pull the trigger on my dream garage just yet. So I went the shed route.

I thought about building it from scratch (I have built a couple sheds in the past) but I wanted to get it done ASAP, and don't have enough time to get it done before winter. Just doing the site prep was going to chew up my only free weekend. Also, if you pour a slab the county counts that footage as garage space for you tax bill, if it is on skids, you pay nothing extra.

I was driving by one of those roadside outlet centers that sells sheds and swing sets, and saw one I really liked. End of the season is definately the right time to buy something like this. The golf cart now has a nice home. Here are some pics:

What material is the floor inside? Looks like you probably won't be using that side door much, but it looks good!

The floor is 3/4 inch plywood. I actually probably will use the side door, as I plan to put shelves in that little nook. I realize the porch chews up space, but this shed is between my house and the street (the backyard is a steep hill down to the water), and I like the look. Plus, it has a decent loft area above the porch.

It has a 12x20 footprint, but the porch is 6x8.

I am in Illinois, so no state credit.... not totally free, but still cheap. I guess when you factor in the sound system I did on the cart and the shed, the program resulted in some economic stimulus.....

oh you didn't get it last year. There was a Federal program where you bought a NEV for say 6k and based upon battery capacity got 6k tax credit (money back)

I did buy it last year. Cost = $6700, tax credit = $4,500. Some states (such as Oklahoma) had 50% tax credit, so someone buying my cart would have made money.

Thanks. The place I bought had some nice stuff, so in addition to the shed I bought some composite outdoor furniture. Stuff isn't cheap, but should last forever.

I like it, you have to have colorful furniture on a lake.

I spent my summer managing a construction project at my primary house, so not much to report at the lake. However, over the summer I got down to the lake enough that and found time to add electric to my shed. I'm very glad I did this as now I can charge the cart without running an extension cord back to the house. Plus, I took this chance to add a barn light over the front door.

Pretty simple, 2 outlets, an overhead light in the shed and the barn light out front. I did put the barn light on a 3 way switch, with a switch back at the main house and then one on the side of the shed.

All trenching done by hand.... I wanted to go back to my office job, digging ditches is hard, especially with the hard clay we have.
