Well he waited a long time but my Dad recently pulled the trigger on a new garage build. The old garage suffered from poor drainage, a bad concrete floor and of course, not enough space. The new one will cure those problems.

A tree had to come down, the yard is trashed and some nieghbors are pissed but if you want an omelette you gotta break some eggs!

He went as big as the township would allow 32' x 24'...
Here is the excavation...

I have to keep off of this board... it makes the people that live in the suburbs and have a 'standard garage' really depressed.... (Yes, I live in 'burbs, and these things make me really depressed... lol)

This is build is located in a VERY suburban nieghborhood. He had to jump through some hoops for sure. As I said, some people on the street have had some problems with trucks parked everywhere and some early morning weekend noise but it's almost done....Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Great looking garage!!! One concern I would have though is the backfill of dirt. I know that around our area it is recommended that all fill be stone as it takes too long for dirt to compact. I know that when I did my garage it was all stone fill and if you go around and thump the concrete you can hear voids underneath. Hopefully you won't have any problems with cracking.

Plywood is rare to see these days...?

Somebody suggested this weekend I use plywood for shelf decking since it was 7.00 per sheet. I had to explain the difference between OSB and plywood. I then showed them the difference. They were astounded a pice of 1/4" thick plywood would support me, but the 7/16 OSB(their plywood) broke under my weight on the same span.

Thanks Kevin. The first picture in post #3 shows the stone going in....32 tons of crushed stone to be exact, under a 5" to 6" pad. Hopefully no cracks!

'66 Fairlane, 428 SCJ, 4spd, runs low 12's...

Now that IS sweet. Need some under the hood pics and interior shots. Workin' on that in the garage has to be enjoyment. I've always favored the looks of the Fairlanes. Is it a factory GT? My x-bro-inlaw had one but I was thinking it was a factory 427. Maybe it was 428.

I have lurked on the FEforum in the past but I am a small block guy personally.

The Fairlane was a small block 500....He had the 428 for about 20 years before he got the right car to put it in...

I can't believe I can't find any complete engine shots. Here are a few others from the dyno and from during the swap.

I think my neighbors were happy to see me tear down my worn out garage and put up a nice new structure. Some of them wish they could do the same.

Garage and car looks great.
