I have a need for a good 1/4" air ratchet, but many are out of my price range right now. Are the HF ones any good? The reviews are a bit mixed. Anyone have any experience with the ones NAPA sells?

Guess I should add it will see daily use on the job, not all day everyday, but it will get worked.

I like the idea of buying used like suggested above
Price out what used would be and a rebuild if its needed

Have you looked at the aircats? They're affordable and their tools don't make your ears bleed.

Ingersoll makes a good one. They run around $50. We put them to the test at work.

I have an air cat that worked pretty well. But i blew the head apart. Sent it back for warrenty. Came back with a new head. Works great. Im afraid to break it again. So it sits unused.

For a 1/4 if I didn't already have HF, I would be thinking about a cordless M12 etc.

used air tools? ahh no

+1
If lubed daily (or more with heavy use) they last a long time. If not, they don't. Who knows how the used one was treated.

Buy the new one, treat it well, and use it for years. It's cheaper in the long run, and definitely less frustration.

The IRs are flat out junk, the heads of them wear out quickly.Had a couple and threw them away for this reason. It was cheaper to buy a new one than fix them.
